Hmmmm....this is a tough one. I'm really not sure what I would do. Don't these people workChat Icon If it wasn't right next to me i think I would still consider it if i loved the house. If it was a direct neighbor I'd pass it up.

Re: Poll - Would you buy a home that had a neighbor...

That's tough. It depends what type of person you are. That would not bother some people, you might be able to tune it out. It would bother me but I love peace and quiet so my neighborhood is perfect for me.

Was it an isolated incident because it was a nice day yesterday? Or did the owners tell you the person was like that constantly?

I know your dilemma and that is what made me ask this. It stinks that you never know what kind of neighbor you might get stuck next to!

It's a tough one, but I would probably pass on the house.

My brother lived next to someone that they never got along, I mean every time he walked out of his house it was so un-comfortable. The neighbor would b*tch about anything and everything and made life a living hell!!!

Played music every night loud and my Niece was a baby at the time. They really had no respect for anyone but themselves

My brother ended up moving!

The person is like this mostly on the weekends, on nice days.

If your undecided, ask to see the house again (on a nice day) maybe this Sat. See if it would bother you and also ask the owners if you can how they like their block see what they say. Good luck!

Re: Poll - Would you buy a home that had a neighbor...

I definitely would not move there!!!

I used to live next to a neighbor like that and it was horrible (he was my parents' neighbor). It eventually morphed into an all week thing with his blasting his music from 4pm on on weekdays until all hours of the night (I was calling the local PD every day for weeks in a row at times) and then he'd do it from 7am - whenever all weekend too. I could never work from home, do homework or unwind in my own house because I couldn't drown the music out with my stereo or tv - his still won. He was a landscaper too, so he'd start running his equipment before 7am and after 10pm fairly regularly for 30+ minutes at a time...When we had BBQs & played music, he'd turn his even louder & then cut his grass for 2+ hours at a time just so that he could "win." Eventually cops started showing up regularly because he got into drugs & hitting his girlfriends. It was TOTAL nightmare!! The entire block celebrated when he finally moved 2 months ago.

You've been blessed with a little glimpse of what your life might be like with this bad neighbor...if I were you, I would run far, far away & keep looking! Sorry

Re: Poll - Would you buy a home that had a neighbor...

This is kind of what we live with. We have very nice neighbors across the street that are kind of loud. THey run their ATVs around the block, are always doing yardwork because they have a lot of property, dogs are always out, there is more but it is too specific. The dogs have woke us up early on occasion and sometimes we have to make the TV really loud or can't nap if we aren't feeling well (this really frustrated me when I had the stomach flu last year) but I always think it could be a lot worse.

Edited to add that they blast music while they are doing the yardwork. Luckily it is music I kind of like but sometimes you just don't feel like listening to it! Again, there are much worse neighbors out there.

for me I would keep looking. We used to have neighbors like this years ago that used to work on their loud cars at all hours and it really gets to you after awhile. I love were we live now....nice and quiet. Chat Icon

Our last house backed up to a court. There was a woman who lived in the court (one house away) who we nicknamed, "Blower Woman".

I swear she must have been OCD about leaves.

6 pm. EVERY NIGHTChat Icon during dinner, she would blow her driveway. EVERY NIGHT!!! How many leaves can fall in the middle of July?

I was so tempted to buy a broom, put a bow on it and leave it on her doorstepChat Icon

I would buy it, a neighbor using a mower/blower and noisy kids to me are not something out of the ordinary just people going about their business I guess.

It depends on you. What I mean is, we all have our IDEAL house. We're all realistic and know we won't find the absolute exact thing we want on every detail. You compromise on some things, but there are some things that are ‘deal breakers’. For me, I absolutely would NOT buy a house with a noisy neighbor. My neighborhood is DEAD QUIET almost 100% of the time. On occasion you may hear kids playing at the house behind me but it’s maybe once a month. I would move out if someone noisy came into the immediate area. I would compromise on other things, but for me, noise is a deal breaker.

I was thinking the same thing. My kids are always outside playing and I love to listen to music too. I don't mow my lawn but my landscaper does on Fridays. Does that make me rude too? lol

Re: Poll - Would you buy a home that had a neighbor...

We have a guy that lives next to our next door neighbor. He is an azzhole (thats what we call him as his name since we don't know itChat Icon ) and we knew this before we bought the house. He has a gunnite (sp) business and lives with his brother. They have loud diesel trucks that drive in and out of the driveway on a daily basis, they play loud music (but we like the music so it doesn't bother me), screaming obcenities at his workers at 5am, in jail sometimes for domestic abuse to his girlfriend, and they are just obnoxious in general- a real class act. They have had issues with every neighbor except us, we mind our own business. My next door neighbor has had personal issues with him since he moved in and constantly complains to us about him. Basically, I think this guy is a jerk, but it didn't sway us. If I lived next door, different story, but it doesn't really affect how I feel about my house.

Re: Poll - Would you buy a home that had a neighbor...

Some people I guess it wouldn't bother, but I am concerned about what I consider excess noise.

No no. The kids playing aren't a concern. Let me clarify that.

It was the other noise that is the concern. Music blasting to me is a concern but I am someone who is very sensitive to noise. I am not a fan of music overall, esp so loud that you can hear it inside the next home if the windows are shut. To me if your next door neighbors have to hear your music louder than you can hear your own if you had it on, I consider that excessive. Some people I guess it wouldn't bother, but I am concerned about what I consider excess noise. That's why I did this poll, b/c I was curious if I am overly sensitive or not.

I can't work or concentrate when hearing music or constant loud noise so it is a concern to me.

In your case, I would definitely reconsider.

Maybe you could ask the current home owners if they've ever asked him to turn the music down a little bit- just so that you can't hear it through the windows?

One of my parents' neighbors (across the street from them- and its actually the homeowner's grown son-he's like 40!) has a car fascination. He works on and washes his cars every day of the week. They have a loooong driveway, but only 1 car is parked in it- the others are in front of their house and their neighbors house, then when his neighbors have guests they park in front of my parents house.
I would be weary about a neighbor like that. I guess we all have our "things" that would be deal breakers.

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

We bought our house in the winter and had no idea....we HATE it! The house was everything we wanted and we were happy, but come spring, and April-October for the last 3 years, we HATE it. They're horrible. They have an outdoor speaker system and sit outside everyday listening to music and screaming in the heated pool. Then they went and built and overhang ont he side of the hosue and put a TV under there adn we have to listen to NASCAR and baseball and them screaming ALL the time. I don't think we've ever once kept the windows in the hosue open to try and block out some of the noise. Then they went and got karaoke this year which they set up outside...great. This was the exact house we wanted and now I can't wait to move!

Oh my. I am so sorry!

Can you call the police? Have you ever tried? Or do you think you will just be told there is nothing they can do? Have you ever asked them to lower their music?

Can you call the police? Have you ever tried? Or do you think you will just be told there is nothing they can do? Have you ever asked them to lower their music? Does it bother any other neighbors? That sounds horrible, I am so sorry! You make a very strong case about noisy neighbors and the havoc they can wreak on your peace and quiet in your own home. That is why this concerns me.

When I was on maternity leave April-June, it was the worst time. I couldn't take naps during the day, open my windows or sit outside with the baby because of the noise. What am I gonna do? It's normal hours of the day. THey do occassionally have late parties, but it's the everyday noise that just wears on our nerves. I will not call the police because I have an apartment and I don't want them to rat me out--even though I have family living there, I don't want any problems and they know about it. They also have family living in the hosue on the other side of them, so there's going to be no complaints there. I've never actually said anything, but one day like 2 weeks ago my husband was working in the yar dan couldn't stand listening to the baseball game anymore and the guy yelling at the TV, so he got the radio out and put it on. The volume was no different than what they play theirs at and he said the guy got ****** after 2 minutes, was cursing and turned off the TV and slammed the door and went inside. He obviously has no concept of what he's doing. I think if we kept doing this to him, it would become a noise "war" like a poster above had. I'm just biding my time and hoping we move int he next few years. And We're going to buy when the weatehr is nice and we can sit on the block multiple times and see what the area is really like.

From the post, I took it to mean other than the 'normal' type of stuff...

For me personally, I don't think it's RUDE, I think it is 'the norm' to hear noises and 'life' going on. For ME I would not move to an area where there is a lot of activity. I like it really quiet, that doesn't make you rude, it means I’m weird Chat Icon You’d have to come to my house to believe how quiet it is. Everyone who visits me always comments on it.
