Poll- Homeowners & Renters
I am just curious how many of us own a home or are renting. I know it can be very difficult for people to afford a home on LI so it peaked my interest where LIF'ers stand.

we purchased our first place (a condo) in 2008
solid it this past summer and bought a house in July 2011!

I chose the 1st option because I'm not sure we will buy in the next 2 years. We aren't in a rush.

owned sine dec 2006. We tried to sell it and went to contract but the buyer backed out 4 weeks before closing. We will try again in 5 years or so I think.

We rent. We were planning on buying in 2012 if DH got a job on LI, but alas we are off to CT so buying has been pushed off to 2013 since we have to use our downpayment money to move.

Rented in 2006 for 11 months then bought our home in 2007 and still here.

We were fortunate enough to close on our home 5 days after we got back from our honeymoon in 2009.
Our home is small but we have enough property to expand. We love our neighborhood, great schools and close to both our families. We paid probably more than we should have for the house but we looked at it with the potential to be our forever home

Own - we bought a 2 family house with SIL in 2007  We are quickly outgrowing the space and hope to purchase a home of our own in 3 years.

we own a home in South Carolina since 2006
We never lived in it investment only rent on LI for a long time!
Just bought a house on LI May of 2010
also still have the home down south but since the market tanked we are waiting to sell that place!! For now it is rented

We kind of do both. We are in a two family house with my mother. So while she technically owns the home (ie she put down the deposit and everything is in her name), we give her a check every month that covers the mortgage, and we split half the utilities, and eventually, the house will go to me and under my name.

Same. We bought our first home in 2004, then we sold and bought this home in 2006. We have done some remodeling with more on the horizon but not sure if its worth it to keep doing this or move in 2-5years
