Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
Posted by prncssrachel I don't know. I don't have a dog, so I guess I can't understand. I can see if you're going to be out for a really long time, but I just don't get toting an animal everywhere you go. I mean, what do people with big dogs do? I'm sure they have separation anxiety, too?
oh i agree
but i am just thinking of why people do
i was guilty once..
when martin was a pup and the DH was working nights...
i had to run to target to get something, i forget what that was, but wa fearful of leaving my new baby pup by himself and back into a cage...
so i hid him in my jacket

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
I have a dog (he is half yorkie half poodle and hypo allergenic - thats why i got him i have allergies)
I love him and would take him anywhere I could.
But you have to draw the line sometimes. Dogs are not meant to sit in a shopping cart at waldbaums, or run around the racks at bloomies.

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
Depends on the store. There's an area of Alexandria that is very dog friendly, even the starbucks has dog treat bowls. But that's the exception. I wouldn't take my pup somewhere that wasn't frequented by dogs. But if I saw a dog at store I would be very cool with it and think of my own sweetheart at home!

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
I think at any time dogs are inappropriate, even if allergies weren't an issue, it's still a health issue. Look, I know my dog doesn;t ahve fleas, ticks, rabies, whatever, but you can't guarantee that another dog doesn't. Plus thre's the smell, or they may not be trained, etc.

Or maybe they were referring to her mother in law

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
I am not a big dog person or animal rights in front of people but during the heatwave last month, my SIL and I came home to her small, very well behaved dog in heat stroke. There is no air conditioning where we live since it is usually cool at night. We took her out with us to Pier 1 and figured they would tell us if she wasn't allowed. No one said anything and she finally started acting normally.
So I am not big on pets in stores, especially baby or food stores but this was an emergency and I could see it needing to be done.

Same here.
There's a woman in my office building that brings two or three dogs to work! Come on! That's a bit much.

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
I think it is inappropraite to bring dogs into restaurants, stores, etc.
However, as long as airlines allow small pets in the passenger cabin - that pet has every right to be on there. How else is the owner supposed to get the pet somewhere? It is well known that pets could be on planes - if I was that highly allergic that I could die, I would make sure that there were no pets on that flight, or I'd bring plenty of medication with me. Doesn't mean the pets shouldn't be on there.

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??
i bring my dogs with me alot (not as much as i used to) so i obviously dont find anything wrong with it.
dogs in stores? i think its fine dogs in restuarants? no way dogs in bars? i think its fine dogs in supermarkets? no way
traveling is a whole other topic. i think its 100% acceptable... i mean, youre TRAVELING! should you just get rid of your cat or dog just because someone 50 rows back may be allergic? that makes no sense. they could be more allergic to the food they serve or the wool sweater the person in the seat next to them could be wearing. if you have any kind of severe allergies the airline should def be notified regaurdless
for the record the following dogs are a short list of some of the tons that are hypoallergenic: -poodle -maltese -yorkie -chinese crested -bichon frise
