Position of the car seat int he actual car?
Where are you supopsed to install the car seat? Behind passenger seat, in the middle, or behind driver seat?

Check your owner's manual, it's different for each car

Yep - it should have a section that reviews this in detail.
Although many people say the middle is the safest, in our car, behind the passenger seat is the safest.

I was just wondering this too.... I've heard that middle is the safest OR wherever your LATCH system is.
In my car, I think I have the LATCH system on both sides... not sure which side would be safer though!

If you have the latch system on both sides, you should put the carseat behind the passenger seat (that is safest). Save the other side for baby #2

In my 08 Civic, the latch system is in the middle. It is a PIA to get baby out...but Dr said middle is safest in case of side impact in an accident! So thats where we put it!

Re: Position of the car seat int he actual car?
I think it depends on the car. We are looking at new cars now (b/c I drive a death trap as DH calls it). They seem to vary by car. Some are in the middle some are on the sides. I think it depends on the latch systems, and the way the airbags deploy.

My car has the latch system in the middle and on both sides. We are still not sure where we are putting the car seat.

Re: Position of the car seat int he actual car?
If the car manufacturer supports it, the center is the safest. If you can't use the middle, behind the passenger is the next safest. Statistically, that location is less likely to be impacted than behind the driver. Also, when you are on the side of the road (street parking, stopping at a friend's house on the road, flat tire, etc, etc), it's safer to be putting DC in and out of the car on the side away from traffic.
