possible infant pet allergy

I have been back and forth to the ped a few times for "colds". I was told they can get 10-12 colds the first year. Dd is 7 months old and on her 5th cold. She had one that started 3/31 and was finally better this passed weekend. She woke this morning with a runny nose and congestion Chat Icon We have not left the house since Sunday. No one else is sick. The only difference is the dog slept in the bedroom last night. The dog has been sleeping in the room with us but got into a bag of chocolate chips so she was locked in the dining room until the puking stopped. Dd seemed to be so much better and then we let the dog out of quarantine. Now she is congested again.

Can a 7 month old have a pet allergy? I have been told it's coincidence and that infants don't have environmental allergies. I am kicking the dog out of the bedroom again (obviously) to see if it helps. Does/did anyone's dc have a pet allergy this early? TIA

Definitely! Now you're stuck with the problem of what to do about it. First step-I would banish the dog from your room(she sleeps with you I assume?) If you can clean that room from top to bottom, move all the furniture, dust vaccuum and mop. Remove any area rug you have or replace it. Bare floors are best but not sure of your situation. Get an air purifier and keep her away from the dog. Also keep him out of any rooms she plays in. GLChat Icon

It def could be that...or it could be just seasonal allergies....DD was in and out of the peds office all of last spring and fall for "colds" but turns out she has allergies....for some reason this spring they haven't kicked in yetChat Icon thankfully though!

Thanks for the replies. I am keeping the bedroom door closed and plan on scrubbing the room down when ds takes his nap.

before you jump the gun, it could be seasonal allergies too. I would clean the house, make sure the dog doesn't sleep in her room and see how it goes.

Also, I would give your dog a bath too to remove a lot of excess hair.
