Potential SCOTUS on Trump's list...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-scotus-pick-william-h-pryor_us_582dc4d6e4b099512f81176d
One of President-elect Donald Trump’s possible choices to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court of the United States is a judge whose career is marked with anti-LGBT acts.
William H. Pryor, Jr., is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta. His name has been mentioned as one of multiple potential nominees for the SCOTUS seat. Pryor’s anti-LGBT agenda certainly makes him stand out.
In 2003, he argued to uphold Texas’ law criminalizing consensual LGBT sex, RawStory noted. Thus, making it illegal for LGBT individuals to have sex in the privacy of their own homes.
“This Court has never recognized a fundamental right to engage in sexual activity outside of monogamous heterosexual marriage, let alone to engage in homosexual sodomy,” Pryor wrote in his brief. “Such a right would be antithetical to the ‘traditional relation of the family’ that is ‘as old and as fundamental as our entire civilization.’”
He added that citizens have “no fundamental right to engage in homosexual sodomy just because it is done behind closed doors. ‘Plainly enough, otherwise illegal conduct is not always immunized whenever it occurs in the home’… Because homosexual sodomy has not historically been recognized in this country as a right — to the contrary, it has historically been recognized as a wrong — it is not a fundamental right.”
He contended that Texas was not the only state in the nation with these views.
Texas is hardly alone in concluding that homosexual sodomy may have severe physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual consequences, which do not necessarily attend heterosexual sodomy, and from which Texas’s citizens need to be protected. Texas’s conclusion, which is shared by other States, is certainly open to debate, but a statute does not become irrational for purposes of equal protection review just because some may hotly disagree with it. Back in 2005, LGBT civil rights group Lambda Legal called Pryor the “most demonstrably antigay judicial nominee in recent memory” and People for the American Way said he has “used the power of his office in an effort to push the law in an extreme far right direction harmful to the rights and interests of ordinary Americans.”
Pryor has also called Roe v. Wade “the worst abomination of constitutional law in our history,” according to The New York Times.
Wow.....

This is exactly the type of thing that has me even angrier at Trump voters than I was before the election.
They have had a direct hand in trouncing on the rights, liberties, and general personhood of millions of people in this country - and some of whom I love dearly.
Nothing about this is a surprise. NOTHING. He made his intentions very clear and people recklessly ignored them at the expense of others.
It was a despicable and shameful action.

They won't regret it. Many if not most of Trump supporters think appointing the most conservative judges to the supreme court is whats good for the country. They are against abortion, against gay marriage and so to them getting judges who feel the same is a win.
I think the only thing that may make them regret a Trump presidency is when it starts to hit them in the pocketbooks and they lose money. Or if he completely backs down on building the wall.
These people are angry people, angry at Government, angry at immigrants, angry at Gay people, angry at people who have abortions, angry at HRC and the list goes on and on. They anger and fear is what made them vote this man. He went to these small towns and made people feel like he was talking to them. He like the second coming of Jesus to some of these voters. The think he is going to fix everything that has made their lives hard over the past few decades. He is going to bring jobs back to their poor communities. Nope he is going to make the wealthy wealthier. Trump is a Pig, I'll never stop saying that because that is what he is. Its not even "grab them by the *****", its hundreds of comments about women, immigrants, and the disabled , attacked people in the media and yet men and women around this country laughed it off and casted a vote for him. Something is very very very wrong with the country. I don't know how these people can lay down their heads at night and not worry.

Re: Potential SCOTUS on Trump's list...
Texas citizens?
Um... we had an openly gay mayor in Houston. And Austin and Houston are very LGBT friendly and San Antonio is doing it's best to get there as well.
*sigh* I hate these bias a-holes who taint my whole state for idiotic views.
There's a lot of very safe and accepting places in Texas. Even my daughter doesn't blink an eye over any of it. We teach our children that love is love, end of story. She has had same sex parents of various classmates since pre-k.
hate hearing about these bigots. They ruin it for the rest of us who are trying so hard to change the future for our children. It's an uphill battle.
I pride myself in the tolerate and diverse areas that I live in. Even now, there's no sign of hate at the Islamic temple near my house or the Jewish center up the road. No one is passing out KKK papers or harassing neighbors. Our town is peaceful. 7th largest city in the US no less. All with the exception of the protesters.
Then this dumbarss as to come out of some backwater woodwork of days long gone and say something stupid so the rest of the country can judge us and he's not even a Texan!

Re: Potential SCOTUS on Trump's list...
The crazy thing about Trump is that I don't think he is against gay marriage or legalized abortion. He has to keep those crazies on the extreme right happy. I wish we could turn back the hands of time now and change whatever it is that helped this wacko get elected.

Here's the thing. I don't think there's a lot of regret. Many, if not most of those who voted for him wanted his agenda to prevail.
They want to see rights stripped away from the LBGT community and women. This is what they voted for, and they are not going to apologize.

So upsetting. Is this just one of the more disturbing of his many options or is this a top contender?

Again, I didn't vote for Trump... but I have to point out that there were 37 states that voted FOR marriage equality before the case went before the Supreme Court. Many of these were "red" states during the election. I don't think all these voters all suddenly changed their minds about their neighbors civil liberties.
Marriage equality
That said, on behalf of my uncles and several other couples I know, I'm very, very worried.

Re: Potential SCOTUS on Trump's list...
This breaks my heart. I was so viciously angry when Trump got elected then I calmed myself down and tried to think, maybe he'll surprise us all. But no, he's doing exactly what most of us feared he would. And this makes me so angry at Trump voters again- maybe even angrier at the ones who AREN'T racist bigots because they just didn't care enough to think about what their vote to "shake things up" or to get away from politicians would actually have on the these groups.

Yep. ITA!!!!
Sadly, and I hate to say this, I feel like the people who voted for him just seem to be completely okay turning a blind eye to the backwards ideas he has and to the scary people he's considering surrounding himself with.
I think so many Trump supporters are caught up in all of his silly little taglines, "DRAIN THE SWAMP" and "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN", that they have lost sight as to what it will mean to have this man in office. He will not propel us forward and make us better, he will bring us down and set us back. It's a shame that isn't obvious to everyone.
ETA - As for what that backwards judge has said..............it's really NOBODY'S business what someone does behind closed doors and who they do that with. Who is the government to tell anyone what kind of sexual activity you're "allowed" to engage in and with who???? So despicable.

Usually those who speak the loudest against gay marriage are the ones who have secret affairs with members of the same sex. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.
