potential teeth staining from vitamins - one year old

Hi

DS is 13 months and at his one year appt, the pediatrician put him on liquid flouride/vitamins. The nurse told me that it could stain the teeth and to get something for it. I foolishly forgot to ask what to get, so I was wondering if anyone knows what she was talking about and can make a recommendation. I'm obviously not brushing his teeth yet - or should I be?

You can brush dc's teeth. You can use toddler toothpaste, it doesn't have flouride.

This happened to DS, we brushed his teeth, but it didn't really help. The iron in the drops caused the staining, so at some point I asked his pediatrician if he really needed the iron. He is not anemic, and he doesn't really, so she prescribed the same drops without iron.

The iron in the vitamin did this to my DD(at one also). We actually took her to the dentist because we werent sure if it was from the vitamin or not. I always brushed her teeth right after giving the vitamin but it was still staining. Turns out it was being caused by the vitamin, the dentist cleaned off the spots so they looked sparkly clean and then said to use a baking soda and water mixture and rub on teeth after giving vitamin and then wipe it off with a gauze pad. I have been doing this everyday since then and her teeth look great! Shes now 21 months old. Pain in the neck, but its part of the routine now and made a big difference!

My DD has been on vitamins since she was 6 months old. I do not see staining as of yet. She gets her teeth brushed twice daily so that may help. My ped told me to start brushing her teeth as soon as she got her first tooth. We use a baby toothbrush and toothpaste that is esp for toddlers that is safe to swallow. We use this:

Thanks for all the tips. I didn't realize I could brush his teeth! I hope he lets me!
