Potty Training and pooping...

How did you get DC to go poop on the potty for the first time...what is that you saw them getting ready to do it and you put them on the potty, or did they initiate it?

DS is on day 4 of PT and is amazing! We have had 2 accidents in that time and has been in underwear even when we go out. He has used the bathroom at CEC and at a relatives house with ease.

But in the last 4 days he has waited until he has a pull up on (nap or bedtime) to do poops, and I am not sure how to initiate the going on the potty with #2.

Thanks!

Re: Potty Training and pooping...

I watched him like a hawk and got him on when I knew it was time.

Initially he just held it for days which was annoying b/c we were afraid to leave the house with him knowing a poop was coming. If you left him alone, he would poop in his underpants. If he did that I would still make him go on the potty. Sit him on there and pull the underpants off as he was sitting on so poop would drop in and make him finish there (even though he was already done).

A few weeks in if he asked for privacy or started having gas I'd say, "oh, you have to poop" and put him on, or if I caught him in the act rush him on mid-act.

Then he just started telling us - it was probably a month after we potty trained that he mastered the poop.

Re: Potty Training and pooping...

Thanks. Thats what I figured. Right now I put him in a pull up for nap and bedtime and thats when he seems to poop. The other day he said he had to poop and sat on the potty but then said "mommy its so hard". Then he pooped in his pull up.

I am afraid it will take that long...we are going to Disney in a few weeks and I just hope that we have some idea what to expect from the pooping by then. Or is might be interesting!

Re: Potty Training and pooping...

Jack has been pee trained since August. He just started pooping on the potty regularly this week(almost three months)

He was also waiting for a pullup (naps and bed) or would go in his underwear before that. It was torture, and a long road, but I think we are on track now.

The only thing I did was not pressure him. I didn't want to make it worse. When he pooped I always told him that it was ok, and that I wasn't mad - but that poppy belongs in the toilet now. Only babies (like his brother) poop in their diaper.

He also gets a toy every time he poops on the toilet now. I will do this for another two weeks or so and then stop it (because otherwise I'll be in the poor house!) Chat Icon Chat Icon
