potty training boys how do they pee in public?

he is 3, very tall, and is scared of adult size toilets. i dont know what to do when we go out, but put him in a pullup.

hes too big for the portable potty, he uses lionheart potty at home, and daycare has baby size toilets.

he wont pee standing and dh is no help in teaching him.

and what about poop, when does poop in potty happen? he asks for pullup when he needs to poop.

He sounds like he's not ready yet. It will happen. Just keep using positive reinforcement. Also are there slightly older kids you can bring him around for encouragement?

P.S. DS is 4 and DH hasn't pushed the peeing standing thing. He always just sits and goes.

DS sits too. He'd be WAY too short to stand!

In public, we got a potty seat that goes over an adult toilet and is a portable potty. It's small for him too, but it did the job. DS got used to going in public bathrooms and we stopped using it within a few months. If he got nervous... I would repeat "sit, bend, pee".

We never used pull ups. Poop just happened in the underwear... Which was fun... And then the potty. Took a few months of washing poop out of underwear. We could predict it to the most part, but always carried an extra outfit or 2. No other option = poop where YOU want it!

There are lots of different ways to go it though! If you don't go out much, waiting a month or two may be the easiest. A lot can happen in a month!

My boys learned on the little potty but then I got them on the real toilet shortly after. It took them a couple months to learn to go standing up. When I'd go out I would bring a potty insert seat and they'd use that until they learned to stand. Public toilets are higher often - so often I'd have to boost them up or have them stand on my feet to reach.

I'd just keep sing whatever positive reinforcement method works for your son and get him on the real potty at home or standing up. Once he does that - then it will translate outside the home. Not much you can do outside keeping a small potty in your car and running back to the car everytime he has to pee.

My DS is 3.5, once I trained him, we stopped with pull ups all together. He had "stage fright" in public bathrooms but I just kept exposing him to them saying its just like home. I'm lucky bc as soon as we started to train, he preferred standing over sitting.

Poop has been an issue but as pp said, it happened in his underwear. He's pretty predictable & 9/10, I catch him & put him on the potty & reinforce poops on the potty. Last week we went without a poop accident & even 2 times he told me had to go

DS is very small for his age, but once he was trained, he started peeing standing up. At home, we had a stool for him to use. When we were out, one of us would take him and hold him up while he peed.

I think using pull-ups only at certain times can be confusing for him. You're trying to teach him to use the toilet, but then offer the pull-up and allow him to go in there. Does he wear underwear at daycare? How does he do there?

It took a little longer for us to poop train, but he was fully trained by 2y9m. I offered rewards (m&m, marshmallow, car, etc) for pooping on the potty at first. It eventually worked.

DS now stands to pee, but when he sat I would just use a potty seat that fit over the adult seat. It folds up so you can keep it in your diaper bag/pocket book. If he is too big for one of those, maybe just put a paper toilet seat cover over the adult seat and have him sit and hold onto the sides so he doesn't fall in. That's what my son does now if he has to poop in an adult size toilet.
