powder n rtf

Right now I use RTF, and when I go out I keep my already made bottles in a cooler bag- It kept the bottles nice and cold and fresh in the winter- but its not going to work in the summer...

I was thinking of using powder when we go out (like using RTF as always but when we go out just put the powder -dry in the bottle, and just carry a bottle of water) Would the constant switch be bad for his belly?

Or am I better off just buying cans as well, and using them for travel!

I carry powder in a formula dispenser if I don't have breastmilk to bring. Just mix it up with some bottles water. Its so easy. I never use RTF.

We changed her over from RTF to Powder and she didn't skip a beat. We use RTF for the daycare- we give them the bottles because they won't mix formula but they will pour RTF and we still us powder at home so three days a week she has a mix and not a problem at all.

Whereas my friends son had HORRIBLE gas from the powder. I think each baby reacts differently and you will have to see what RJ does.

We never had issues when we switched back and forth but I guess every baby is different. Chat Icon

Re: powder n rtf

When Nate was on Enfamil he would only drink the RTF. The powder just didn't have the same consistency. Now he's on Similac Isomil Advance Soy and he swiches between the two with no problem. I mostly buy powder now bc we're on a tight budget, but my MIL always picks up formula when she sees them on sale and most of the time it's the RTF.

my son takes either or without any problems...I guess every baby is different with this..

BTW, we live in Florida and I still take RTF bottles with us when we go out in an insulated bag with those blue ice packs and they stay cold and fresh no problem

Re: powder n rtf

How do you heat the bottles up when you are out? Let's you are at the zoo or something, how would you heat the bottle up if your baby does not drink it cold.

That's why I always used the powder. You dont have to heat it up, just ask for warm water.

I never had to heat it bacause Aidan drank everything room temp (powder) but I suppose if I HAD to, I would ask for a cup of hot water at a conmcession and put the bottle in it for a few minutes.

Honestly, if you start out not heating, your baby probably will never know the difference.

yeah but the thought of always giving a cold bottle out of the fridge to a baby worries me. Won't it hurt their little stomachs drinking cold milk all the time?

No, Not cold... Room Temperature.

ie, carry powder and a bottle of poland pring or an unopened can of RTF.

ETA: not that I think drinking cold milk will actually HURT them for a summer baby in the heat of the summer it may be refreshing.... a brand new newborn, no but 3+ months... I don't see why not. Some babies actually like it cold. Its a matter of preference and comfort.
