Pre-Term labor test?
I haven't felt my little peanut move all weekend and called the doctor yesterday to let them know. They had me come in and use the fetal montior for almost an hour and a half to make sure the baby's heart beat was good(which it was nice and strong) and to see if I was having any contractions, which I was. Not many but she did a pre-term labor test of my cervix I forgot the name and she said that will tell her for sure if I'm at risk for pre-term labor. She said she didn't get a good feel of my cervix cause I was to tense she is also having me come in tomorrow for a sono because she wants to make sure the baby is developing ok. I'm worried somethings wrong
Just wanted to see if anyone had this test and what the out come was.
Does anyone have contractions and there dr told them they are fine and no at risk for pre-term labor??
I'm all worried waiting for tomorrows sono and my test results.I'm praying everything is fine!

Re: Pre-Term labor test?
One of my buyers at work is due in 3 weeks & she tested positive on the " Fetal Fibronectin" test. She was put on bedrest for 3 weeks bc of contractions but now she is back at work & patiently waiting the arrival of her The Dr wanted her to make it to 36 weeks if she could & today is 37 & she is 3cm dilated

Thanks kristen! I'm only going to be 27 weeks... That's so early if I test postive!! She said everything looked ok but like I said I was having some contractions do you think I could still test positive? I'm so worried! I'm happy to hear your buyer is doing well!!

Re: Pre-Term labor test?
They can do the FFN every two weeks. And EVEN IF it comes out positive it doesnt mean you will deliver. Many girls have had a false positive. BUT a negative is a negative. SO no worries till you have to!

ITA, the FFN test is only reliable if its negative then it guarantees you wont have pre term labor and it buys you another 2 weeks. However if it is + its only 18% chance that you could experience pre term labor. and there are many factors that can cause false positive.

i have actually been on bed rest since i was 17 weeks due to a shorten cervix and a cerclage i had put in at 18 weeks. I had contractions only once and that was due to dehydration it was unrelated to when i had the FFN test. i was at a rountine doctor visit and my cervix had shortened to 1.0 cm, so my doctor did the FFN test, it came back +. i was given steriods for the babies lungs just in case. and here i am 7 weeks later. Still trucking along.

Re: Pre-Term labor test?
I had the FFN test done at 27 weeks when I was pregnant with my DD because they were detecting some contractions and my cervix had shortened. It came out positive. I was put on bedrest unti I was 37.5 weeks and had DD 4 days later...even if the test is positive that only means you may go into labor in the next 48 hours...so as long as you make it past that 48 hours its nothing to worry about...I was probably on bedrest for the shortened cervix rather than the positive FFN...my advice would be that if they do put you on bedrest for whatever reason...listen to the drs....I was on bedrest for 2.5 months but as soon as I came off I had DD...so I am so glad I stayed on strict bedrest or maybe DD would have come at 27 weeks.... Good Luck!!

Re: Pre-Term labor test?
I had the FFN test done many times. I started having contractions at 23 weeks. They were sporadic and the FFN was negative. I had it done 2 weeks after that, and it was still neg. At 30 weeks I started having more regular contractions. I wound up in the hospital for four days, had to start taking meds to stop the contractions, and went home on bedrest. The meds and bedrest did its job. At 35 weeks the contractions started again and were very strong and regular. My drs were sure I was going to go into labor and have the babies, but I didn't. I was in the hospital again, for 3 days, and went home on a higher dosage of the meds. At 37w5d I delivered by scheduled c-sec. I started having contractions again while waiting to go into surgery - but all those times I never went into labor. I never dilated, my water never broke. I delivered two healthy full term babies!
Make sure you drink LOTS and lots of water. You could have an irritiable uterus (which is what I was told early one). Not drinking enough water will cause contractions. Keep a pitcher on your desk at work or by your bedside and just keep drinking!!
ETA: The FFN test is really only telling if it is negative. If it is neg, it means you most likely will not go into labor in the next two weeks. If it is positive, it doesn't really mean much, its not an indicator that you will go into labor early

Re: Pre-Term labor test?
last pregnancy i contracted basically non-stop every few minutes from 25 weeks until i delivered.
i had regular fetal fibronectin tests, all of which were negative. i was on meds and bedrest from 29-36 weeks and the contractions never stopped! but i didn't start dilating/effacing until 36 weeks and even then, it was gradual.
i ended up giving birth only 3 days before my due date. turns out this is the way my body does pregnancy, but i never went into actual pre-term labor.
so just because you're contracting doesn't mean it will lead to anything. i'm sure all will be fine
