doesn't your DC get the RSV vaccine..? if so, a full outbreak of RSV won't be nearly as severe as it would be without it.. it would manifest like a cold. The RSV vaccine is a wonderful thing

Re: preemie moms what do you do during rsv season??
DS was a preemie and contracted the RSV virus in the SUMMER of all seasons (they did a culture to determine that it was RSV). He ended up at Schneiders with bronchiolitis and was on steroids and nebulizer treatments.
The thing is, when I asked my ped about getting the shot this season, they told me he was not born prematurely enough to get the RSV shot (he was born at 35 weeks). Very frustrating because he is in daycare and obviously is at risk. So I'm not sure what to do for this season. I'm going to ask my ped again if there's any way that DS can get the shot.

I would ask again... almost demand it... my boys were 35 weekers and for the most part healthy when they were born and we got it.. i do not attend daycare and they arent really around kids all the time.. Def ask again!

My baby isn't a premie..but RSV still scares me because children up to 2 years of getting RSV, which can be severe.

My baby was born at 36 weeks and is now only 4 weeks old. His real due date was just a few days ago. 36 weekers do not meet the guidelines to get RSV shots but maybe I should ask????????

Re: preemie moms what do you do during rsv season??
well my son was born just shy of 32 weeks...so we made it....i am almost proud of him for being 50 minutes shy of 32 weeks!
it took us a month and a half to get approval for the shot...absolutely ridiculous--here is a child whose lungs were very premature...still considered to have chronic lung disease and they had to figure out if he woule be approved

Re: preemie moms what do you do during rsv season??
My boys were just over 6 weeks premature. They were entitled to the shots last year and I was super-cautious of who came over/where I went for the first couple of months. During the holidays immediate family held them but I pretty much kept them from being passed around. It was all worth it b/c they never got sick more than a sniffle.
They were not entitled to the shots this year b/c they had no long term effects of prematurity, thankfully.
Just be cautious and be sure to make everyone wash hands before touching the baby.

Re: preemie moms what do you do during rsv season??
This is our first season and I am petrified. I go back to work in 2.5 weeks and DD will be going to in home care-safe than daycare germ wise but all the same its kids. She got her first dose last week so I am thankful. She was approved no problem being born 32 wks 4 dys-came out breathing on her own was just tiny. We go to my parents house then MIL so its just close family and I am very vocal when it comes to hand washing.
