To answer the original question, I did research when I was PG and found that Splenda was safest. It does not cross the placenta while we know that saccharin does (which really isn't used in beverages anymore), and I wasn't comfortable with the info I received on aspartame. I allowed myself to have 1 soda a day while PG.

Not a big soda fan here, and I don't drink it when I'm not preggo, because I feel that artificial sweetners definitely do not do a body good... so I didn't when I was pregnant either. No caffeine as well.
Diet - never Reg Soda - in a blue blue moon, ginger ale settled my stomach in the first weeks.
