Pregnant and crashing...need OB advice.
Hi ladies! I need some info/advice if possible. So here it goes...
I currently go to Suffolk OBGYN and while happy there I have my heart set on delivering at Stony Brook and they only deliver at St. Charles.
My problem is I live in Huntington and would prefer a doctor in the Smithtown/Hauppauge area b/c it isn't too far for appointments.
Can anyone PLEASE recommend their OBGYN's in that area is possible..stipulation is they MUST deliver at Stony Brook. THANKS SO MUCH

Re: Pregnant and crashing...need OB advice.
I can tell you that Contemporary Women's Care in the St Cath's medical bldg lists on their site that they have rights at Stony Brook, but this is misleading. They will only deliver you there if you want a tubal ligation because it can't be done at St Caths.
That's the reason I left the practice.
I'm now seeing University OB/GYN in Stony Brook.

Is there a reason you don't want to deliver at St Charles? I only ask because I had a wonderful experience there

I live in Huntington, work in Glen Head and SB is a straight shoot down the highway for us. My sister deliverd at St. Charles and had a great experience as well....I prefer SB b/c of its NICU.

Re: Pregnant and crashing...need OB advice.
can't help with an OB, but i can say Huntington Hospital is a great hospital. i can recommend an office that delivers there.
i was born at huntington, and so were both of my kids. one of them having major medical issues and i can tell you they took better more attentive care of my son than Schneider's did. the doctors in the nursery are really amazing at hungtington if you're worried about it.

Re: Pregnant and crashing...need OB advice.
I go to Dr. Marin at Ob Gyn Specialists - 631-862-3800. They have an office in Stonybrook on 347 as well as one in the medical building at St. Catherines (which might be better for your appointments).
I have had both Dr. Marin and Dr. Amorin deliver my c-sections and I was happy with both.
Also, delivered at St. Catherine's and LOVED it there
If you have any questions, FM

Re: Pregnant and crashing...need OB advice.
I have found that there are very few Stony Brook affiliated doctors west of about Smithtown. I went to a doctor in Setauket when I wanted to deliver at Stony Brook. I understand that a lot of people have great experiences at other hospitals but after all I have been through, I would only deliver at a hospital that has Stony Brook's level of NICU care. My son would have been transferred to Stony Brook if I had delivered at any of the other local hospitals. I would have had a hard time being at one hospital while he was at another.

Have any of you used Dr.Eliot Birnbaum in Smithtown? I am getting mixed reviews on him.

They will deliver you at Stony Brook if you are very early and need their NICU. They sent me to SB L&D twice when I had premature contractions.
To me - I love the practice I go to, I trusted all the doctors. That being said, I thought about switching when I got pregnant so I could deliver at SBUH. But after thinking about it, I decided aving a doctor I knew and trusted for the 9 months of pregnancy was more important to me than where I would spend a few days after the babies were born. I did not want to start looking for a new dr. after I was pregnant already.
And FTR, I loved St. Catherine's. Everyone there was so wonderful. It may not be as fancy as SB, but it is small and you are treated well.

I used to see him and I liked him but I was not an OB patient at that time

I can only give you more mixed reviews, unfortunately. I personally know people who love him. However, when I consulted him specifically about fibroids, long before I was pregnant or TTC, I felt that I knew more about fibroids than he did. Also, he was not open to my questions about the newer forms of fibroid surgery. He was not the right doctor for me for that condition and I did not consider using him when I was pregnant. I am very picky, though and I interviewed many doctors when I needed fibroid surgery.

He used to be part of CWC and branched out. I've heard bad reviews of him, sorry

Re: Pregnant and crashing...need OB advice.,
I started out at Suffolk ob/gyn a long time ago. Liked it, but it got so busy... so I switched to Dr. Elliot Birnbaum in Hauppauge.
While I was tehre I mostly saw a nurse practitioner - Sue I think. Loved her!
Once I was pregnant, I met Dr. Birnbaum eventually. I thought he was ok. I didn't ever really feel rushed, I felt I could ask all my questions (i always went with a list!), he strongly encouraged me to get the flu shot but was ok when I said I preferred not to get it, they were willing to do bloodwork when I didn't feel as "pregnant" early on as I had a week or two before, etc, etc. I would have stayed with him - except I wanted a midwife.
My mom goes to the office in Smithtown and mostly ikes it. Sometiems she says the secretarial staff can be.... not the nicest.
I delivered at Stony Brook with the midwives adn LOVED it.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!
