I find it really disturbing not to mention that it's not a man, it's a woman who has done her best to "turn herself" into a man. exactly, how creepy
Yes, physically, was born a woman and still has female reproductive organs (obviously)... but *legally* Thomas is a man now.
I don't find it disturbing, honestly...

I really think it's great! Another step to help society get over judging things only by appearance
See, I have to disagree. To me, it has nothing to do with "helping society get over judging appearances." In my opinion, it is a confused person who is making a mockery out of so many things - pregnancy, true transgendered people...you can't have it both ways - you're a woman, decide you want to be a man, don't go all the way with it, so now you've kept your female reproductive system but now you're a man who gets pregnant? You're not a man, you're a woman and the whole thing to me is wrong and sad.

I'm with you on this one, I find it a touching love story really. The world isn't all black and white, there are so many wonderful shades of gray.

Good for them, I hope they have a wonderful life
no, i agree with you... I really do hope they have a happy wonderful life.
I just don't agree with the constant EXPLOITATION of this pregnancy (on THEIR part) with the obsession of the 'pregnant man'
I agree with all of the above- but the pictures are still disturbing to me

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
I have to say, I think naturally people are reacting to the duality of This whole thing. I think nothing fazes me because I have had a lot of gay and TG friends and I know the struggles they have gone through. Hell, I spent a week At the Michigan womyn folk festival- NO men allowed, and I had to take many double takes when I saw what looked like some very good looking men walking around. Why would they so strongly identify with being a woman yet sport a goatee? Who knows. But I wasn't there to judge, and I'm still not here to judge. The world is full of horrible people who do disgusting things to children. I am much more judgemental of people like that. I just hope that they let This whole thing quiet down after the baby is born so she can have a regular childhood.

ITA! If you want to be a man, fine. but don't be a man and then decide you want to have a baby. I have no doubt they will love their child, but it's disturbing. I think he even said the transgender society shunned him. I don't blame them, he's gone against the purpose of changing yourself to the opposite sex.

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
I share everyone's opinion here. On one hand I think, hey, these are two loving human beings who want to share the joys of parenthood together.
On another hand, I can't help feeling something is off...
Will the child call Tom, dad or mom??? Or both?

I think it's more than becoming completely a man. It's giving up your reproductiv organs and your option to have children of your own. If he did complete the transformation, he would not produce sperm. The desire to have your own children is strong in both genders.

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
Thomas seems really confused to me.
He removed his breasts, decided to take hormones to grow a "penis", facial hair, etc. but yet had a strong desire to get pregnant? Sounds like someone wants to have their cake and eat it too.

The story is the wife couldn't get pregnant. So, they decided to go with This option since the parts were still there. Thomas held onto these parts just in case. I guess the woman part of him was using his brain, lol.

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
I'm honestly surprised by some of the response here - I don't think that many transgendered individuals would agree that they are having their cake and eating it too in any capacity. People don't get reassignment surgery for a bunch of reasons, not to be all "Wow, I can be a man and a woman? How much more awesome will my life be then!"
Also, gender is different from sex ... Sexually he has female reproductive organs. Gender? He is a man. Its somewhat amazing that he is pregnant probably due to the fact of the enormous amount of hormones he has been on for a while. I cant imagine testosterone being the best thing for getting pregnant and carrying a healthy child to term but this is total supposition
Everyone is permitted their opinions, and I totally get the "wow, that totally shakes up my notions of pregnancy or gender" mentality or how people can forsee maybe some extra struggle for the kid... but for you to flat out say that his genitals will make life hard for the kids or that it is "wrong" or "just not right" makes you seem like the life police. Whether a kid wears glasses, has a last name that rhymes with something awful, smart, not smart enough, too tall, too tall etc there is a risk that they will be made fun of so why should it be different here? At least the kid is wanted, will have parents who care for it, and are atune to overcoming adversity.
didnt mean to come off preachy, sorry!

like I said above, I just hate the media attention.
Seems to me that she/he is posing for the pics. I also think I see his name on the bottom of the pic. I think they want the attention and are seeking it. You have to admit, it's fascinating.

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
I don't have a problem with this WOMAN being pregnant. - SHE wants to have a child and live her life as a MAN, that's HER business .........
I DO have a SERIOUS issue with the constant EXPLOITATION of HER pregnancy. - SHE is NOT a MAN !!! I have a problem with the fact that because her FEMALE "father" had ZERO discretion and plastered HER pregnancy all over the world, this child will constantly be under a microscope. - She'll be abused by strangers and forced to listen to everyone's opinion of her 'parents' and their lifestyle choices .......and WHY ? B/c her parents wanted their 15 minutes of fame .........
