very disturbing. If you want to look like a man, then be a man. men can't have children. I feel bad for this baby .

I sort of feel this way. The second pic does disturb me. I think that should be private.

I don't have a problem with this WOMAN being pregnant. - SHE wants to have a child and live her life as a MAN, that's HER business .........
I DO have a SERIOUS issue with the constant EXPLOITATION of HER pregnancy. - SHE is NOT a MAN !!! I have a problem with the fact that because her FEMALE "father" had ZERO discretion and plastered HER pregnancy all over the world, this child will constantly be under a microscope. - She'll be abused by strangers and forced to listen to everyone's opinion of her 'parents' and their lifestyle choices .......and WHY ? B/c her parents wanted their 15 minutes of fame .........
THis is EXACTLY what I was going to say!!!
Be a MAN Be a WOMAN I really don't care But do it in PRIVATE!!!!!! What other reason do we all have to know your business other than you wanting a little spotlight and some cash? Terrible
I agree, this is what bugs me. I do feel for this child b/c I don't think it's as simple as "All will be fine b/c the child is loved". This is very bizarre.

I don't see why so many people find this "gross" or "disturbing." Who really cares? This is what this couple decided to do - it was the best option for them, and who are we to make judgements on it. Somehow I doubt they sought out media attention but when the media got wind of a "man" being pregnant they ran away with it. And if they are getting money, then you know what - good for them -- it gives them money to help them raise their child.

They aren't exploiting the child, they are exploiting themselves, and it his their choice if they want to do this. I don't see a child in any of these pictures. I am sure they will be very loving parents who want the best for their baby. Was it really necessary to use the eye-rolling? If I could do something for my child before it was born that would help me to have money to raise it, then I would do it.
What is the difference between this and celebrities who flaunt their pregnancies, and then who get paid millions of dollars to have the "first pictures" of their babies in People? They certainly don't need the money, and no one is calling them disgusting or saying they are exploiting their children. They are oohing and ahhing about how cute the babies are.
Was this picture disgusting or exploitation?

I don't care for that pic either. I think pg pics are one thing, but I don't personally feel the whole world needs to see. That's just me.

I don't know...knowing he's really a woman, well, he's essentially topless in every picture we see. And therefore, is it pornographic b/c topless women are cencored, right? There are just sooo many grey areas here.

Actually, they were the ones who contacted the media about it. THEY approached Oprah and People magazine. They also have a book in the works. There have been pregnant "men" prior to this case.

So doing something to set your child up for a lifetime of media attention, social rejection and commentary from stupid people around the WORLD would be worth it to you b/c you'd have some extra cash to raise the kid?? They're going to need it for her therapy ! -
I have NO problem with this couple having a child, my problem is the fact that this WOMAN is exploiting her pregnancy as a "pregnant MAN" .......the Demi Moore cover is hardly a comparison. Yes, it was controversial, and in a sense even an exploitation of HERSELF .......But it wasn't something that was going to affect her child's life -
This girl could very well have gone her entire life with Mom and DAD without any outside party knowing her personal, PRIVATE family business. But instead, b/c her LOVING caring parents wanted to make a few bucks, she's going to be subjected to abuse and ridicule and media attention for morons all over the WORLD.........WHY would anyone CHOOSE to bring that on a child?? Growing up is hard enough, kids are cruel enough to each other, society as a whole is unforgiving - Why would you deliberately make your child's life harder ???

I thought about that too, but if done as art, it can be seen as acceptable? But he had the tissue removed. Plus, women are allowed to be topless now, as a result of BFing in public.

I'm not sure this will necessarily happen. I remember the controversary surrounding the first "test tube baby" (read: IVF), in the US. No one even thinks about her except as a beginning of a wonderful medical advancement. It's hard to see now, but I hope that the world will be more accepting as years go by.

And she still is referred to as the "First test tube baby". So it can be a defining moment. I personally would not want my child to be known by the entire world for something other than who he or she is, not how they were created.

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
I still don't find this strange
I'm happy that this, albeit non traditional, family has not limited their happiness by doing what makes the rest of the world content.
What may be disturbing you is what makes their world complete. Why shouldn't they have a family if they want one?

I have the bigger issue with them publicizing it, not actually having the child. I think most on here have an issue with the publicity aspect of it.

See, I have to disagree. To me, it has nothing to do with "helping society get over judging appearances." In my opinion, it is a confused person who is making a mockery out of so many things - pregnancy, true transgendered people...you can't have it both ways - you're a woman, decide you want to be a man, don't go all the way with it, so now you've kept your female reproductive system but now you're a man who gets pregnant? You're not a man, you're a woman and the whole thing to me is wrong and sad.
I AGREE!

Re: Pregnant transgender man Thomas Beatie
He is not a transgender male. If he was, he would have had a total sex change, which he didn't. I feel really sorry for this child because even though it is loved, he/she will be tortured at school.
People need to be really carefyl and realize that not all other people are as easuly accepting of differences in families!
