Prevacid Moms - how the heck do we give a pill to an infant?
Ok - I did a search on here and read all the different posts on the solutabs. I'm also reading that some people got it compounded into a liquid and others are saying it can't be done because loses effectiveness. He had his first dose tonight - just tried to dissolve it on his tongue - didn't work so great. Going to try syringe tomorrow but see that being a big pain. I'm just so stressed and upset. What worked for you?
Also - instructions that came with it say to take before meal? I did it right before his bottle? Is that ok?

The syringe blows! Take the tab ona spoon and drop water onto it with a dropper until it becomes a paste, then stick that on his tongue

JUst shove it on his tongue? lol He's only 6 weeks- that will be ok? How do you get them to swallow the paste then - when they drink the bottle? Are they still getting the right amount that way?

Yep-its fine. Stick it on his tongue and then let him drink his bottle. Yes-he will get the full amount
ETA-it will be like a loose paste not really firm you know? sorta liquidy

so you didn't bother with the whole 4 mL dissolving in water - just enough water to melt it on the spoon?

I was told dissolve in a tablespoon of water and give with a syringe. I was also told by the pharmacist and GI that its suppose to be given 30 min before a meal and NOT to feed them right after or the medicine is not as effective. Its suppose to be given on a empty "acid" stomach

Thanks for the info - I'll double check with the pharm about the 30 minutes - only thing it says on med package is to take before meal. That would kind of suck if it's 30 minutes ahead of time - sometimes he's sleeping 30 min before a meal and I would hate to wake him up!

My best advice is call the pharmacy you use and speak to the pharmacist because they know how the medications interact with other substances best........

when i took prevacid during my pregnancy bc the acid was so bad, the OB toldme to take it first thing in the AM, empty stomach and wait a good 30-45 min before eating. It made a world of difference for me taking it that way. maybe it will help your DC doing it 30 min before his bottle.

I guess my only concern with this is if he is actually sleeping, I would hate to wake him - as he sleeps so poorly. Plus, he would fully scream then for the full half hour for his bottle - oy vey On phone to pharmacist now.
