Prince, the award winning singer, song writer and actor known for his hits “Purple Rain,” “Little Red Corvette” and “1999,” has died.
He was 57.
A fatality was reported at the “Purple Rain” singer’s Minnesota estate on Thursday. Authorities responded to a medical emergency at the Paisley Park property at 9:43 a.m, according to TMZ, but did not immediately identify the deceased. The website subsequently confirmed his death.
Born Prince Rogers Nelson, he famously changed his stage name to a symbol in 1993.
One week ago, Prince shared an ominous photo on Instagram of a blank white space. His fans flooded the image with wishes for his health. “Get some rest Prince, we’ll still be here when you feel better,” one wrote.
Earlier this month the singer was hospitalized after his jet made an emergency landing in Illinois, hours after a performance in Atlanta. A rep for Prince told TMZ at the time that he had been suffering from the flu for several weeks.
A rep for the singer did not immediately return a request for comment.

I cant wrap my head around this. They're saying it was possibly from the flu. He was just so young to die of complications from the flu! I know it happens...it just seems like something that happens to very very young children or the elderly...not to someone who's in their mid 50's!
So sad...he was such an amazing artist. I'm crushed by the amount of talent that has passed away far before their time recently

Another board reported he had AIDS. He stopped taking his AIDS meds 2 years ago due to religious reasons and that his immune system just couldnt handle battling the flu.

I heard the same thing which kind of makes sense to a degree. His immune system being so weakend not being able to fight it. At the same time it could have just been the flu.

Not to hijack, but flu is no joke this year. My grandma passed last month and yes she was in her 80's, but it was 5 days from when she felt like she was just starting to get a cold to dead. The hospital told us that the strain of flu and pneumonia the last couple of months is one of the worst they have seen and they have had people in their 20's and 30's die.

Yikes. I am so glad I read this AFTER DH, DD and I all recovered from the flu a few weeks ago.
That is scary!!!

A lot of the blind item websites were claiming last week that he had AIDS and had stopped taking his meds - which is why he had to emergency land his plane. And that he didn't have much time. He also told people "to wait a few days before wasting prayers." Some are even linking his death to Vanity, she died of respiratory problems and supposedly was HIV positive as well. Some think he may have committed suicide.
All speculation, but sad nonetheless. He was a true artist and visionary. He will be missed.
