Progesterone Shot-Need tips!

I am taking my first progesterone shot tonight. Can anyone give me tips on how it won't hurt. I'm nervous!

NO!

Icing made it so much worse.

I used to take a warm compress and stick it on the area for 5-10 minutes before.

Then the warm shot would go into my warm cheek Chat Icon and it was so much easier!!

The biggest thing is to relax your muscles. I know it's easier said than done, but it also makes a big difference.

I would lean on our tall counter with my upper body and not put any weight on the side DH was doing.

GL!!

I thought that the ice made the shot sting. Actually I don't use anything. After doing it for a few weeks I am a little sore though. Never tried it, but the warm compress sounds like a good idea. Good luck!! Chat Icon

Oh, I forgot something I do is pinch myself with my nail somewhere on my wrist or something so I am concentrating on that pain instead of the shot. HTH!!

Definately warm the oil first, either stick it between your boobs for a while or stand the little bottle in some hot water. Remember it is oil so the thinner it is the easier on the muscle, and as Lauren said massage and heat the area afterwards, good luck

I agree with the heat...it does help. After doing them for 5 weeks now, I am pretty sore regardless of the heat but I keep telling myself it's worth it.

Good luck!

Update on shot:

I warmed the oil and warm the injection site....and it wasn't bad at all!! Only a soreness afterwards, like how your arm feels after a flu shot. Thanks for all of your tips!!

I agree ice made it hurt and longer to inject.
I took a wet washcloth and put it in the microwave for a few seconds and put it on the injection site for a few minutes. Then DH inejcted the PIO, and it didnt hurt, plus the oil went in faster.

Oh good!

We had a routine down after a while. We'd watch Jeopardy and right before Final Jeopardy DH would start warming the shot and I'd start warming my butt.

Then when Wheel of Fortune started we'd do the injection.

For the rest of my life I will associate "WHEEL....OF....FORTUNE" with bending over the counter while DH injected me.

Re: Progesterone Shot-Need tips!

Wow. . .I never thought to warm the area or the shot. The first 3 days we didn't do anything just the shot. The 4th and 5th day we iced the area and I never even knew when my hubby poked me (with the needle that is Chat Icon ). My nurse also told me to point my toes in while standing. It helps not to tense your muscle. Good Luck.
