Propane or charcoal BBQ?

I am torn on which type of grill to buy. My dad has always had a propane BBQ.

I would prefer propane, its so much easier to start up. Even though sometimes charcoal tastes better its too much work to get it started and too messy to deal with and it has more chemicals. My DH on the other hand would chose charcoal since he likes to smoke meat.

Re: Propane or charcoal BBQ?

We have propane. Charcoal is great, but we prefer propane because 1) there are only two of us, so we can turn it on for small, quick meals as opposed to having to go through a bunch of charcoal every week or two and 2) it's easier when we have people over...we can turn it on and off as needed.

Yes pretty much this.
Propane is just so much easier.
Though I do love the smell of a charcoal grill going and miss it sometimes

Propane or charcoal BBQ?

My DH will only cook on a charcoal grill, so that's what we have. The propane is definitely quicker and easier though.

Re: Propane or charcoal BBQ?

i cook on charcoal. i bought a fire starter for our charcoal grill so that the grill is ready in about 10 minutes.

We have propane - it heats up in only a few minutes and we don't have to deal with charcoal. You can get a smoker box to put inside the grill so that it gives it more an "authentic" grill flavor, too.

Us too. DH is from Argentina and does not like gas. I have a little gas grill to cook hot dogs for the kids or grill up some chicken quick but for everything else we use charcoal or we cook over our outside fire pit with this [External Image
