Law Will Allow Employers to Fire Women for Using Whore Pills

A proposed new law in Arizona would give employers the power to request that women being prescribed birth control pills provide proof that they're using it for non-sexual reasons. And because Arizona's an at-will employment state, that means that bosses critical of their female employees' sex lives could fire them as a result. If we could harness the power of the crappy ideas coming out of the state of Arizona, we could probably power a rocket ship to the moon, where there are no Mexicans or fertile wombs and everyone can be free to be as mean a cranky asshole as they want at all times! Arizona Heaven!

Yesterday, a Senate Judiciary Committee endorsed Republican Debbie Lesko's HB2625 by a vote of 6-2, which would allow an employer to request proof that a woman using insurance to buy birth control was being prescribed the birth control for reasons other than not wanting to get pregnant. It's all about freedom, she said, echoing everyone who thinks there's nothing ironic about claiming that a country that's "free" allows people's bosses to dictate what medical care is available to them through insurance. First amendment. The constitution. Rights of religious people to practice the treasured tenets of their faiths, the tenets that dictate that religious people get to tell everyone who is not of faith how they're supposed to live, and the freedom to have that faith enforced by law. Freedom®.

Further, Lesko states, with a straight face, that this bill is necessary because "we live in America; we don't live in the Soviet Union."

Ah, yes, the Soviet Union. The sort of place where a woman might think about getting birth control through an insurance plan to which she contributes premiums without having to show her boss her prescription in order to prove that she wasn't using it to not get pregnant. The Soviet Union. A hellscape where women don't run the risk of losing their jobs over their sexual practices. What a horrible, awful place where herds of sluts run wild like feral ponies, humping everything in sight. The nightmare of unwilling motherhood evaded is a constant spectre in The Motherland.

Anyway, this bill probably won't get anywhere; it violates all sorts of privacy laws and I can't imagine that female citizens of Arizona would be in favor of having their rights further legislated away by a chamber of mostly dudes trying to win votes from Team Jerk Version of Jesus. But that doesn't make it any less depressing. In fact, it's almost depressing enough to make a lady consider building a time machine so that she can take it back to 1985 and find some job security in the Soviet Union.

Re: proposed law in AZ to allow employers to request women provide proof they're using BC for non sexual reasons

You have got to be kidding me. I just posted this as my facebook status but now it seems appropriate here as well, and I apologize for any offended by this, these are my personal political beliefs.

In the wise words of Dan Savage: "In 2010, Americans voted Republican hoping—despite 30 years of evidence to the contrary—that the GOP might know something about creating jobs. Surprise! Turns out that all the GOP knows how to do is wage war on American women. The GOP's attack on abortion morphed into an attack on Planned Parenthood which morphed into an attack on access to contraception which finally morphed into an attack on the 98 percent of American women who use or have used contraception. (Sluts and prostitutes, one and all, according to Rush Limbaugh.) The GOP's war on choice, contraception, cancer screenings, and women won't end until the f**** waging it are driven out of office.

Pissed off? Great! Do something about it.

Go find a pro-choice Democrat who's running for office against an anti-choice/anti-woman mother***r and send that Dem a check or, if you live in his or her district, volunteer for that Democrat. Fight back!"

Here's the text of the bill:
http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/50leg/2r/summary/h.hb2625_03-01-12_houseengrossed.doc.htm

I hope they have a similar bill stating that Viagra is used for a non-sexual purpose too.

To reiterate what I wrote in a previous thread: In December 2000, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled that companies that provided prescription drugs to their employees but didn't provide birth control violated Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prevents discrimination on the basis of sex.

I truly hope Arizona women stand up for their rights & speak to their legislators.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/13/nina-turner-viagra-contraception-bills_n_1341642.html?ref=mostpopular
As a member of a heavily male- and GOP-dominated state Senate since 2008, Ohio legislator Nina Turner says she has cringed watching her colleagues pass bill after bill to regulate women's reproductive health. Now, the Democrat has become the latest in a series of female state legislators to give her male colleagues a taste of their own medicine by introducing a bill that limits men's ability to get a Viagra prescription without meeting certain government conditions.

"We should show the same attention and love to men's reproductive health as we do to women's," Turner told HuffPost. "And my bill does that."

Specifically, Turner's bill would require men to receive psychological counseling to verify that they have a medical reason for taking erectile dysfunction medications, such as Viagra, before they can legally obtain a prescription for it. It would also require doctors to inform men, in writing, about the potential risks of drugs like Viagra.

The bill borrows language directly from Ohio's controversial "heartbeat bill," which bans abortions after the fetal heartbeat can be detected -- often before a woman even knows she's pregnant. But Turner said her bill is not just an answer to the heartbeat bill; she has been outraged by number of bills and amendments over the past couple of years, including one recently proposed to ban physician assistants from placing or removing intrauterine devices (known as IUDs), a common form of birth control, based on the Republican sponsor's moral opposition to that method of contraception.

"We need to fight fire with fire," Turner said.

Turner is inspired by female legislators across the country who have been countering anti-abortion and anti-contraception legislation with men's health-focused measures that come with conditions, she said. Oklahoma Sen. Constance Johnson, also a Democrat, proposed a "spilled semen" amendment to her state's "feel personhood" bill that would declare it an act against unborn children for men to waste sperm. Illinois state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, another Democrat, introduced an amendment to a state mandatory ultrasound bill that would require men to watch a graphic video about Viagra's side effects before being able to receive a prescription for it. A bill filed by Virginia state Sen. Janet Howell (D), would require men to obtain a rectal exam before obtaining such a prescription.

The Viagra bill will die much faster than a BC bill, mainly because men would be affected.....

YES! I keep saying this, seperation of church and state. I was never clear on why the government got to use the excuse that it was immoral or against their religious beliefs to allow same sex marriage...um you're a politician NOT a priest!!

If the catholic church doesn't want to allow it because it's against their testaments then so be it, the government shouldn't force them to marry same sex BUT a civil union done in front of a judge or something?

That's just one example. Whenever these politicians talk about their religious beliefs I get worked up because our country was founded on the belief that religion should not run the country.

So, will men then have to prove that they are using Viagra/Cialis for NON-SEXUAL reasons ?
It is no ones business why I would take certain meds.

I'm getting so sick and tired of the double standard. This is 2012, not 1812.
It seems like women's rights are regressing.

I cannot for the life of me think of how a company or HIPAA privacy officer, for that matter, delve into the reasons for birth control.

This is an HR nightmare.

This is horrible. For any congress woman voting for this they should have their congressional healthcare bcp coverage revoked. I am sorry, it is disgusting to me that they think their religion has a right to control my body. I am not on BC pills but if I wanted to be on them I would want that right for me and for any other woman who decides she needs them.

I'm not even on BCP right now, by choice, but I want it to be there when I need it.

And I don't want to have to tell my boss, yeah, I'm planning on porking all night long, so can I get some pills?
