Re: proposed law in AZ to allow employers to request women provide proof they're using BC for non sexual reasons
This is extremely scary in addition to being disgusting and an enormous violation of womans's rights.

the idea that this will not pass or will be determined to be unconstitutional after the fact is cold comfort.
the idea this is actually being attempted is more distrubing to me by far.
it's coming from different states and on all fronts. and we are too busy beating each other down to fight the real fight.

Re: proposed law in AZ to allow employers to request women provide proof they're using BC for non sexual reasons
I seriously don't understand how birth control has become a debate in this country in the past few months... WHERE DID THIS COME FROM???? HOW IS THIS EVEN AN ISSUE THAT PEOPLE ARE DEBATING???
And you know what's funny.... I grew up in a very cultish church that was very anti-birth control. What was preached from the pulpit was that you should have as many children as God gave you and it was a grave sin for a woman to deny her husband sex for any reason at any time. I sat by a good friend's hospital bed as she lay nearly dying of pre-eclampsia (she had seizure after seizure) and her 26 week gestation baby fought for her life in the NICU and listened to a priest tell her this should not stop her from having more babies.
But you know what?? Nearly all the women I knew from that church used some form of birth control without their husband's knowledge. Almost all. And I am friends with some of them on FB now and I see them posting support for these ridiculous bills that keep popping up and I want to respond, "You disgusting hypocrite."
Do we really want to go back to the days of women having babies until their bodies give out? Let me tell you, my degree is in history but I specialize in the topic of women and gender in early modern Europe. WOmen always find a way... there are tons of household products and plants that are effective means of birth control and abortifacients. If this assault on women's reproductive rights continue, I don't doubt that that kind of knowledge passed down from mother to daughter will become necessary again. However, IT SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY.
Women need to take a stand and not allow their rights to be eroded further. I hate that my daughters are growing up in an America like this.

Amen.
We should NOT brush this off because it won't pass or will be shot down. The fact that it's bieng proposed is MORE than enough.

Re: proposed law in AZ to allow employers to request women provide proof they're using BC for non sexual reasons
To further what Meaghan said, it happens in all communities. I read a story about Dominican girls in Washington heights who would go to get a certain drug from pharmacies that would cause abortion. Of course it was also horribly dangerous. It came from a culture that's very against birth control and of course nothing is discussed out in the open.
I know several people who have used birth control, or who have even had abortions, who are supporting these anti-woman candidates.
I personally believe abortion is wrong. I don't use BC, but women's right are completely under attack here. It's a public health issue.

this is just ridiculous. coming from a woman makes it worse, especially since she doesn't know what she is talking about, comparing us to the former Soviet Union.

This is just as scary as the other proposed bill in AZ that would allow doctors to lie to women who are having children with birth defects in order to make sure they don't abort them.
Really, we are going to lie to people now??? Come on!

Wouldn't that go against the hippocratic oath and their code of ethics?

I thought you were kidding about this. So I looked it up. I can not believe how little our rights seem to mean anymore. Seriously, WTF is going on!?!?!? it's really scary!!!
As to the original post- how could that be legal?
