Protein Powder?
I'm 17 weeks pregnant but still having a hard time eating My OB said the baby is growing, so I shouldn't worry, but I am trying to find some things I can keep down. I have been making smoothies, which I really love. I am trying to find a protein powder that it is OK during pregnancy. Anyone have recommendations? Thank you in advance! :)

Re: Protein Powder?
My doctor recommended carnation instant breakfast or ensure because protein and I (in firm of chicken, meat etch) have not been friends at all

Re: Protein Powder?
Can you tolerate whole grain/whole wheat bread, peanut butter, pasta (has 7 grams per 2oz), beans (refried beans in a burrito or qusidilla), legumes, eggs/dairy, protein bars? I think the daily value of protein for a pregnant or lactating woman is 71 grams per day.

Re: Protein Powder?
Ican handle beans, pasta, and dairy. It's just meat, especially chicken, that gets me sick.

Re: Protein Powder?
About Time Whey protein is all natural and delicious. I used it while pregnant for the same reasons!

You should be fine with your protein intake then, I would focus on Iron and make sure at your next blood draw the assess you for anemia of pregnancy. I have been a vegetarian for 21 years and am 32 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy. Ive never had a problem with protein---there is protein in so many foods other than meat/fish. It's iron that you have to watch out for. Both pregnancies I was slightly anemic starting in the 2nd Trimester despite trying to add as many iron rich foods as I could into my diet. I have to take a supplement (Fero Sequeals)....

Re: Protein Powder?
I'm a vegetarian. If you're eating beans, nuts and dairy, I don't think you need to worry. My DH asked my dr about it and she said as long as I incorporate those things it's totally fine and there is a lot if protein in vegetables. The typical Anerican diet actually includes a lot more protein than our bodies need.
My dr did recommend boost shakes to me if I felt I couldn't keep food down.
