PSA-Beware new computer virus going around
YEAH I got it It's called think point and looks like and acts like an antivirus program it is definetely NOT!
I have no idea what stage it's in. Apparently this is really bad. I had to bring my hard drive to Staples (they now fix computers) I just want my thousands of pics of my girls off of it.

Re: PSA-Beware new computer virus going around
One of my work computers got that and after reading how nasty it was, I just cut my losses and reconfigured the whole thing.
The last time I got a virus at home, I did all my known fixes to no avail. Finally I followed this very long but very helpful guide:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
Next time, I won't even bother with my own stuff. I'm going straight there. More than once I almost threw in the towel with the instructions but stuck with it and was rewarded.
It happens to most of us at some point, I just hope you can get your photographs back!

Dh was trying to go on diicks sporting goods and clicked a bad link which downloaded the virus and tons of pics of diicks. Lmao I did the same. I by passed the virus with ctl alt delete and then removed hotfix.exe from the task manager. Ran a scan and it was removed.

Re: PSA-Beware new computer virus going around
For Christmas invest in an external hard drive. You can get one from Walmart or Target for around $75 or less.
I backup all of my pics on it practically monthly.
DS plays on my computer and it makes me nervous every day!!!! LOL!

Re: PSA-Beware new computer virus going around
If you have Windows 7... there is a really easy backup software built-in to prevent stuff like this from happening.
Buy an external hard drive. Then just get into the habit of backing up your PC or laptop like once a week or so.
To back up your PC... go into the control panel. System Settings. Select backup your PC. Create a system image. Point the backup to your external hard drive.
It will create an entire backup of your operating system. It will also ask you to create a restore CD. Get a blank CD and create one of these.
If your PC ever gets a virus, put the CD in the drive and boot from the CD. Select repair your PC. Select the backup image. Restore. PC is fixed in about an hour.
I back up all my PCs this way. Can't be too careful these days, and I really can't afford any downtime on my laptop due to my business.

Re: PSA-Beware new computer virus going around
Just an FYI - if you get a pop up that says your computer may be infected by malware & to click ok to check it....
You need to CTRL+ALT+DELETE out of it.
DO NOT CLICK OK.
