Re: PSA-Lead found in Leap Frog Musical Table
I am not throwing it out nor am I taking it away from her
She doesn't eat it either one. If she did or it was being put into her body somehow then yes I would take action but not over something like this.

Re: PSA-Lead found in Leap Frog Musical Table
DD got that table for her first Christmas 2 years ago...she doesn't chew on it, so I'm not concerned. Plus she had a lead test done 2 months ago and she's fine.

here's a thought....
can you imagine what was in OUR toys as kids?
We had METAL tonka trucks and cars that had SHARP edges!!
We had toys that were DESIGNED to make you sick (the sit & spin and how FAST it used to go)...
We rode our 'big wheels' in the middle of the street!!!
I'm rather positive that most of our toys had lead and all kinds of other things - they simply didn't test for it.
I 100% believe in testing and all that stuff...but there has to be a line.... There will come a point in time - i'm rather sure - that BREATHING AIR will not be healthy...
Could not have said it better....ITA!

Re: PSA-Lead found in Leap Frog Musical Table
They do this every year, and cause unecessary alarm. There are certain metals in pretty much everything. There are regulations that make sure they are not above a certain level which is deemed to be dangerous. Something like lead is dangerous if ingested. My kids do not eat the musical table, so I am not concerned. Same thing for any of these other toys mentioned.

Re: PSA-Lead found in Leap Frog Musical Table
I'm not concerned w/ the lead but the bromine.
Some of these things are "possible" carcinogenics...in any amount, the key word that allows them is "possible". Yet so are things liek bologna and I eat that
I hate to over react but the reason we dont hear more about this is honestly b/c these business ( plastics industry etc etc etc ) are BILLION dollar companies, and they ( just like Tobacco etc) pay and support agencies and people to not do testing etc.
I'm not blowing up some huge conspiracy theory thing here, not at all. We have that toy ( table) and "may" continue to use it...not sure yet.
The thing is I just wish that people would not just instantly take this info as fact or as NOT fact either.
Research, see what you find.
I try to avoid Bromine as I read up on it and it causes issue from exposure ( over time) like infertility etc...as someone who suffered form that and knows that its on the rise and the rise is unknown in origin, I wonder and would like to protect my children, while also not being hyper sensitive to every latest "this is bad for you" statement made.
I always hate these threads b/c I feel like theres two sides...the side who says OMG, I will not allow my child to have any risk , and how could anyone and then the side that says OMG, these other parents are overeacting..we all grew up on it and are fine.
My drawn out babbling post is to just point out there can be a middle ground. Its all about comfort level and knowledge.

Lovely..the in-laws just bought him this and he loves it.
I want to take it away, but I don't also because he loves it.

I have the phone that they deem is too loud. Do I throw it out?
I have that phone too, I'm not throwing it out...
I just listened to it against my ear. It IS pretty loud for a child's toy. I dont think I am giving it back.

Re: PSA-Lead found in Leap Frog Musical Table
I know everyone is saying if they don't put a certain toy with lead in their mouths, they are not worried. But what about simply touching the toys and then putting hands in mouth, eating with those hands etc? Does this pose a real risk, just wondering?

No, the lead doesn't leach out of the toy and onto hands.

I guess I was thinking of that recent thread about xmas lights and babies/pictures. In that thread, someone posted an article about xmas lights containing lead and how after handling them, you need to wash your hands afterwards. The article even said about not washing hands, eating food afterwards, etc...I think.
I believe the directions for the lights literally say this...wash hands after use. So that was my thought process.

Re: PSA-Lead found in Leap Frog Musical Table
For those that contacted them did anyone get an official response from Leap Frog or Fisher Price?
My husband says to throw them out but I didn't react that way at first. I do say that everything has a little bit of something and I did say that he only plays with it by hand he never chewed on it. So I'm not sure what to do here. If it was really bad wouldn't they have done a recall?
As far as the laugh and learn puppy I never thought of it being loud annoying yes but not loud. I guess if you hold it right to your ear which he never does either.

There is lead in everything. The consumer product safety commission has acceptable levels. If they say it is OK, I think it is
I agree. DS has this table and it's not going anywhere, he loves it. Plus it's not like he chews on it
