PSA: Newborns and blankets

Hi ladies. I just wanted to share this with all of you. I also think this is the second "incident" that happened this week on the parenting forum.

Anyways, last night I was awake reading and checked on my DS who was in his cradle. He had wiggled underneath his blanket and his face was covered.

He was totally fine, but I hate to think what could've happened if this was in the middle of the night and I was passed out sleeping.

I feel like I need to share this with all of you because this is definitely something no one ever told me about blankets & newborns.

They make sleep sacks, fleece pjs, etc..........Consider using them!!!!

ETA: I also always wrapped the blanket tightly around his lower-half so didn't imagine something like this ever happening.

I am no longer planning to use blankets when he is sleeping at night.

Yeah, I've been told by pediatricians in my family (finally, something I can benefit from!), to not put anything in their cribs, especially not blankets

ETA: I'm sorry that you had to go through that, I'm glad nothing happened though

Chat Icon im guessing if you use a blanket- and wrap it around them- take a safety pin- to pin it to the onsie so it doesnt ride up

Reason we never used a blanket with dd.. and at almost 17 months old still havent used one. New baby wont have one either until they are in toddler beds.

I'm sorry you had that scary experience!! This is why the books all recommend that you put them down w/ nothing in the crib. My ped and the hospital both told me to put her down with nothing and I have been too afraid to since although I probably could now.

I think a lot of moms out there don't know better at the hospital they had a baby care channel and it gave tips and safety suggestions. So many companies sell those gorgeous baby sets - but even baby bargains doesn't recommend getting one. I do occasionally use a blanket for naps but I have a crocheted one that is full of holes so you can see thru it so that one I don't worry about.

We used and still use the sleep sack it is fabulous - It keeps DD warm and I don't have to worry about anything going over her face. I highly recommend them. It also makes it harder for them to try and climb out of the crib as they get bigger.
