Blankets and newborns
I was in our bedroom reading last night, DS was in his cradle. I got up to check on him and noticed he had squirmed underneath his blanket and his face was covered. He was fine, and since it was warm in our room last night, I decided to let him sleep blanket-free, especially since he was in layers.
DH disagrees with me though, and feels that he should be wrapped in a blanket.
Any advice? He already has basically grown out of the swadle-me's and I really don't want to buy anymore items if he is going to outgrow them soon. TIA!!!

Re: Blankets and newborns
Please get a sleep sack-its a wearable blanket and MUCH safer than a regular blanket. They are pretty big and will last awhile. My first DD wore the small size until she was 9 months old.

Re: Blankets and newborns
We use sleepsacks. They are the safer alternative to a blanket!

We put DD in a fleece sleeper, then the sleep sack over it. But- if its warm in the room- the fleece sleeper should be fine.

Re: Blankets and newborns
This is why I stopped swaddling in blankets. As much as you don't want to spend $ on items they will not get months of use of, it's the only way to ensure safety so it's worth it.
Buy a cotton lightweight sleepsack and a fleece sleepsack.. .

Re: Blankets and newborns
This is the second incident I've read on the board this week about a blanket. I really wish they would stress no blankets before parents leave the hospital. My family gave me such grief about not using a blanket, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Blankets and newborns
we use the sleep sacks if it's cold, and just a sleeper if it's warm. she squirms a lot and is all over the place. i would not use a blanket.

I absolutely love sleep sacks! I have 3 of them and I can't seem to find more. They're also great when you have to chnage them in the middle of the night XOXOXO BOTB

Re: Blankets and newborns
I love the sleep sacks as well, I have a bunch of them for DS. Another thing you may want to try is a sleep positioner, that way DS cannot wiggle down in his cradle past the sleep positioner and under the blanket. Whenever I use blankets I make sure to tuck them in the sides of his cradle and only put them up to his waste. When I do not use the sleep sacks I dress him in the carter fleece pjs which are nice and warm too.

Re: Blankets and newborns
I didn't give DD a blanket till she was about 15 months. She wore sleepsacks and/or fleece pajamas in the colder months.

ITA!
We use the Sleepsack year round here. Fleece Sleepsacks over fleece PJs during the fall & winter (it's cold in her room); cotton Sleepsacks over cotton PJs in the spring & summer (it stays cool in her room b/c of the central air).
DD is 19 months and I just bought 2 XL cotton Sleepsacks for her for spring/summer. I LOVE them! Besides for being swaddled TIGHTLY in the beginning, DD has never used a blanket-- even at 19 months, b/c we haven't needed to due to the Sleepsacks.

I would have written that exact thing word for word - I have no plan on giving DS a blanket any time soon and he is 19 months. LOVE the sleepsacks!
