PSA: Wild dogs loose in Dix hills

Has anyone heard about this?
Source

There’s a scary situation taking place in one Long Island neighborhood. A pack of wild dogs is on the loose, engaging in some particularly vicious attacks.

On the streets of this Suffolk County neighborhood, residents say there is danger lurking.

“I still can’t fathom it. I still can’t fathom that wild dogs are running around Dix Hills,” resident Elyse Dionisio told CBS 2’s Scott Rapoport.

Dionisio said a pack of wild dogs is on the attack.

“They were mangled. It was a bloodbath,” Dionisio said.

She said the wild dogs savagely attacked five of her sheep and a goat on her farm, jumping over a fence to get to them. The animals were so brutally mauled a vet had to put them to sleep.

“Three were slaughtered in here. Three were slaughtered in here,” Dionisio said, pointing to the different parts of her farm wear the animals were found.

What’s more, Dionisio said hers was the fifth dog attack in the neighborhood in the last week alone.

A neighbor who didn’t want to be on camera but witnessed the whole thing said the violence was shocking.

“I heard all the animals screaming for their lives,” the person said.

Rapoport was told the dogs traveled in a pack of four. Witnesses said they were about 60 pounds each and extremely aggressive. Neighbors are clearly on edge.

“We have a lot of little kids here in the neighborhood. That would worry me,” resident Fred Mina said.

Police are investigating and Animal Control has set traps in the area. But the action is too little, too late for Dionisio and the animals she loved so dearly.

“They, um, tore ‘em up,” she said.

An animal shelter in Huntington said one of the wild dogs — a 40-pound mixed breed – was captured and will be euthanized this week.

Please be careful with your LO(s) if you are in this area. DS and I normally go to a park around there but now obviously we won't be. So creepy!

I think I'm more surprised there are sheep & goats in Dix Hills than wild dogs.

My quote button is failing but I wanted to post the specific location.

The dogs have been roaming in the high T's (high tension wires) that run parallel to Carls St. Path in Dix Hills. This area is between Deer Park Avenue and Commack Road, South of the Expressway.

There are about a dozen blocks that are dead ends with the High T's at the end.- which is where one of the attacks occurred. The police are involved and have set up traps.

Scary stuff- I live here!
