PSA:Measles Warning
Suffolk’s Department of Health Services issued a measles warning Friday. Officials say a 13-year-old girl who contracted the virus had not been immunized. They say the girl, who lives in Babylon, didn’t know she had the measles when she visited Bay Shore Mall on July 29. She had recently been overseas traveling in Europe.
After a few days of not feeling well, she was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. Health officials are now putting out a warning for anyone who visited the mall that day, explaining they may have been exposed to the virus.
County health officials say the measles can be highly infectious if you have not been vaccinated. Symptoms of the measles include a runny nose, cough, fever and rash.
“I would hope that other parents have their young children inoculated,” says Jenny Zaun, of Sayville.
