Does anyone here have a pug? DH and I are thinking about getting another dog. We already have a puggle but we love pugs too. How are they with other animals?

How about doing a search on petfinders.com? Here is a pug rescue that you might be interested in:

Re: Pugs

Go to pugrescue.com

Also go to petfinder.com and type in your zip code and pug under breed and it will bring up the pugs for adoption.
I took two puggles off street recently and a very old pug about 12 years of age...named him Elvis..today he is alive and well in a loving home. All were adopted via no kills. We are spay neuter..do not do adoptions.

Re: Pugs

Pugs are lovable and adorable and are perfect for children...but...they are puppies until they are 3, they shed unbelievably, they eat everything, they are difficult to potty train and they need attention constantly. Be ready for tremendous responsibility.

I couldn't have said it better.
One other thing- they are prone to many health problems.

Re: Pugs

seriously I have a pug, and love him to death, but would never get another one.

He has sooooooo many health problems since he was 10 months old. He sheds so much, and as he's been getting older he tends to be getting aggressive. he's going to be 7 and hes the sweetest thing to us, but I don't trust him that much anymore.

I would stick to getting another puggle, since that is a mix breeed dog, they tend to have a lot less health problems. You also have experience with one.

I wanted a pug so bad, for years and DH bought me one. By 10 months old he had to have a brain surgery, and it's been down hill from there. I have to say, not all pugs are like this, I have friends that never had issues as big as mine, but in general they tend to have more health problems then other dogs.

Mix breeds are the best! Resuce one from a shelter!!

I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope your puppy is okay.

I have also heard the opposite about pugs. They have been a part of my life for a long time and most of them have lived healthy long lives. Pugs have a lifespan of 18 years. Many pugs I know have been living healthy lives for 10+ years. They do have breathing issues sometimes, but not all have problems. I think with any breed some doegs may get sick. I would not define pugs though as a health risk dog.

Re: Pugs

My aunt and uncle have two...a male and female. The male is two and the female is just a year.
I think they are adorable...they are the sweetest, friendliest pups. Although I don't know much about them other than that they tend to have breathing problems. But, my mother has a 14 year old chihuahua that has had breathing problems his whole life and he's still going strong.

Re: Pugs

I have a pug, Lola 6 months. She is excellent with other dogs.

ETA: Aside from her breathing (she snores a lot) she hasnt had any health problems. She is very affectionate, especially towards my 2 year old son

ITA. Fascinus is 6 years old (yesterday!) and is finally just calming down. He is a big barker too, regardless of all his training.

Totally barkers. Mine barks at sirens, fire works, the garbage men, airplane noises, birds flying... and the snoring at night...sounds like we are experienceing an earthquake...but my Puggie is the best!Chat Icon Lots of work though, just be warned. Oh and he's very healthy but I keep him on a very strict diet so he doesn't get overweight which Pugs are very prone to do. They eat everything and more!

OMG mine was barking at the leaves falling this season....it was too funny. I also have a 7 month old, which he is fabulous with too. I just love him to pieces. He is beginning to get overweight, so we are going to have to put him on his senior diet!Chat Icon

Re: Pugs

my boss has two pugs. Both are about 10-12 years old and have health problems.

They had two pugs when they lived in London and on the way over one of them died due to suffocation.Chat Icon

So they adopted another older doggie and she has addison's disease. They love these dogs but they do have some health problems as they get older..most animals do I guess.

They love their pugs and they are so sweet, but I've heard about the health problems from others as well.
