Re: Puppy store

go to a breeder or a pound

Dogs from "stores" are usually products of puppymills and they really should be STOPPED

Re: Puppy store

So many puppies need to be rescued from town shelters - often you can even see their pictures online. Let me know where you are and I'll let you know the closest few.

Re: Puppy store

I Would talk to Lolita4Life about this before you do that...NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store...they get their stock from puppymills which are horriffic farms that breed animals from in the most unsanitary and inhumane ways and many of the babies that come from them have serious health problems and much more...

Like I said, Talk to Lolita - she knows a lot about this subject and Good Luck

THANK YOU! We dont know anything about this process yet, I had no idea that pet stores weren't the best for buying a dog! We havent decided if we definitely want to get a dog yet, but we do want to start researching. we want to go to a pet store just to take a look around. I will definitely take breeder recs though. Thanx again for your quick responses!

Re: Puppy store

besides the fact we were so heart broken that this little 4lb puppy had pneumonia... the bet bills were outrageous... we almost sued the puppy store... they reimbursed us the price of the puppy... but we were still out THOUSANDS for medical care...

the money wasd one thing... but imagined how happy you are to bring a puppy home... and in 48hrs... she gets deathly ill... and needs to be hospitalized...

I wish we had done our research before we purchased...

ditto...i wish my dad had known as well

when i was 10 he bought us a dog from a store...

She was utterly evil...we loved her anyway...but such a bad temperment probably due to inbreeding of the puppymills

Re: Puppy store

research online which breeds you like. if you go to a shop you'll probably end up wanting to "save" one of their pups.
yes theyre cute, and also pretty diseased.
if you are getting from a breeder please do not go to a shop 24 hours before... otherwise you can bring back tons of germs to the healthy breeders pups.

if you google "puppymills" which is where stores get their livestock youll be disgusted.

if you need help finding a reputable breeder i will helop you.

Re: Puppy store

We got one of our lab as a puppy from North Shore Animal League and she is WONDERFUL!!! We got her 2 years ago and have no regrets.

When we were living in Florida we got a second black lab from a North Shore type place and same thing.

Here are my babies!!

Re: Puppy store

Please don't buy from a puppy store. Those dogs are from puppymills and so many bad things go on there.

Look into adopting a puppy. If you look on petfinders.com, you can see there are so many puppies that need a good home.

But make sure you know what type of dog you want and do your research.
Dogs are a 14-15 year commitment. They need vet care, nurture, attention, and nourishment.

If you need any help finding a breed for yourself, drop me an fm.

Don't buy while others die/spay or neuter your pet.

Re: Puppy store

I agree, Puppy stores are bad news. Also the puppies live in cages and not only get sick but learn such bad habits.

look around. We reasearched for over a year and a half for a puppy. We looked into breeders, turns out it was too much $$$ for us. But we always looked around.

On petfinder.com we ended up finding a puppy we had wanted at a SHELTER who we adopted.

the same puppy was sold in stores for over $800-$1000.

Reasearch and look around. When the time is right, you will find yoru puppy!

My family rescued Bengi, our 14 year old yorkie from Little Shelter 13 years ago. We had no problems with him.

Re: Puppy store

we're still trying to agree on the kind of dog we want...but plan to visit North Shore Animal League tomorrow.

We actually went to a shop in Suffolk today and got totally scolded for going from "crib to crib." We weren't touching the dogs; we were leaning in to just see them. The kid working there was so rude. Finally DH said, "Thanks. We'll get a dog somewhere else." Fine, I can't touch them or go from crib to crib but can you tell me why before you yell at me?
