Re: Puppy store

go to a breeder or a pound
Dogs from "stores" are usually products of puppymills and they really should be STOPPED
I couldn't agree more!

Re: Puppy store
Pleazse use petfinder.com if you are looking for a specific breed. They have a breed search. If not the Little Shelter in Huntington has a great adoption program.. NSAL is great, but beware of dogs listed as terriers. FM me if you want details. Also every AKC recognized breed has a breed rescue.
If you want to know what breed of dog fits your lifestyle, you can feel free to post or FM & we can try to do our best to find you a dog that is right for you. Like others have said, Lolita4Life & regi are very very involved in the rescue community (as am I) and could be great resources to help.
I am the owner of 3 great pure bred rescues, a Pug, a Shiba Inu, and a Chihuahua. Feel free to FM if you have questions & congratulations on deciding to expand your family & on doing your research before welcoming your new family member!

Re: Puppy store
Please stay away from a puppy store-either check out a local Town animal shelter or the North Shore Animal League--

Re: Puppy store
I couldn't say it better than anyone else here already has...Just wanted to let you know that we got our dog from the breed rescue site through the AKC(American Kennel Club) website and we couldn't have gotten a better dog.

Re: Puppy store
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not buy a puppy from a pet store or backyard breeder. there are SO many wonderful dogs that are looking for loving homes and waiting to be adpoted. i would receommend petfinder. if you are interested in a lab, labs 4 rexcue based out of CT is a great organization.
GOOD LUCK!

we're still trying to agree on the kind of dog we want...but plan to visit North Shore Animal League tomorrow.
We actually went to a shop in Suffolk today and got totally scolded for going from "crib to crib." We weren't touching the dogs; we were leaning in to just see them. The kid working there was so rude. Finally DH said, "Thanks. We'll get a dog somewhere else." Fine, I can't touch them or go from crib to crib but can you tell me why before you yell at me?
I know what store you are talking about, but it's actually a very good policy to have. It isn't good for young puppies to be handled so much by people because they make them sick and hurt them by accident a lot of times.
Anyone interested in learning more about the horrific industry and ways to help.... Puppymill Rescue
