Absolutely agree with this, I was a sub in the district so I saw it first-hand.
My brother has autism and went through Bay Shore and did beautifully. Lindenhurst also has a great program.

Re: Q about school districts that have good programs for autism
There are a lot of schools with great programs, but I would be cautious to move to an area just for that. Something as simple as a change in staffing could make or break a program! I would just demand the best from the district you're in and don't settle for anything less! Parents have SOOOO much power, you have no idea!

Re: Q about school districts that have good programs for autism
we are in N. Bellmore, and they have an excellent program... they have 2 school with self contained classes, and 2 schools with inclusion classes. also if your child is HF and can be mainstreamed they will sometimes provide a 1:1 aide in your home school (if it isnt one of the special ed schools already)
DS will be starting K 2012-2013, and i am hoping he will be either in an inclusion class or (very much wishful thinking) go to our home district school... if he needs to remain in a self contained class i would prefer him stay where he is....
S. Bellmore has an even better program.. wish i was 2 blocks over... the school is based on the Princeton program. (i think thats the name of it)
Seaford Harbor (not Manor) has a great program as well....

Re: Q about school districts that have good programs for autism
Longwood School District has an ABA program that is good, however, it's for low functioning students. N. Bellmore has a great Autism program as well. William Floyd is up on coming with thier programs. I agree about the staff. It is all about the staff. If they get changed (which often happens) then it may not be as good, depending on the teachers skills.
