Q for you if your DC has ever had an ear infection and taken antibiotics...UPDATED AGAIN
So since this is DS's first time really being sick I'm not sure what is normal and what is not. How soon before he should seem basically himself again?
DS had a high fever on tues. and was acting really really irritable and basically inconsolable - took him to ped, diagnoesed as ear infection with sore throat and had to start antibiotics, took antibioitcs tues, wed. thurs. and today. He is definitely better than Tuesday but still not terrific - his fever has come down ALOT and is only around 100 even without tylenol but otherwise he is still acting irritable and a bit "mushy" and not sleeping well at all- and, now, he is sporatically pulling on is ear - which he was not before and coughing a bit which, he was also not doing before.
Anyway - at what point do you call the ped? Is this normal or should he be acting completely normal by now? TIA
UPDATE: So I just took his temp and now it was at 101.6 so something is def. going on - i am going to call the ped tom. I wish i knew what was wrong with my little man
UPDATED TODAY in post below.

If he's not improved by tomorrow morning, I would definitely call because that's almost five days on antibiotics. I actually notice a difference in Ava in two days, so four dosages of antibiotics. I feel your pain, my dear

My kids only had an ear infection once so far... a week apart. They were back to being themselves about 24 hours after the first dose of antibiotic (Amoxicillin).
I'd call the ped. Maybe what he prescribed isn't working for DC.
I hope it gets better soon

I notice a difference after about 48 hours on antibiotics. You may have an antibiotic that is ineffective for your DC and need a new one.

Thanks ladies! The thing is, he is better and his fever has gone down. But, its almost like he has cold symptoms now - is it possible that he has caught a cold on top of what he had or would that not happen on antibiotics? He is also cutting two teeth, the poor baby!
I guess it could also be the fact that he hasn't been sleeping well at all. At any rate, I am going to see how he is tomorrow. If he is the same as today we are going to go to the ped.
THANKS SO MUCH - I really appreciate the help - on a friday night no less!

Well, the congestion in his ears could be breaking up and draining into his throat, which would cause a post nasal drip type cough. That happens to me when I have ear infections

Re: Q for you if your DC has ever had an ear infection and taken antibiotics...UPDATED AGAIN
So my ped has been away and the ped we saw tues. was one I had never seen before and didn't particularly like or agree with (with the ear infection and antibiotics). Anyway, she jumped down my throat when I questioned her about it.
Today we went back to the ped b/c of the above - we saw a different ped that I have seen before but not our regular. DS's ears are perfectly clear and he did bloodwork and his white blood cell count (and his blood count overall) is completely normal -thus, ped said, he does not have an infection - it is viral and not bacterial and he told us to stop the antibiotics - which he implied should have probably never been prescribed to begin with - which is what i thought and i am just so
Anyway, poor ds is still so sick, fever - horrible wet deep cough that seems to be killing him and just and overall mush

Awww... I hope he feels better soon. We had this particular cold a million times it seemed. Of course now that I am off in the summer, she is perfectly healthy!

Thanks, I actually updated in the thread - turns out it isn't the ear that is causing the sickness...thank u though this is good to know!

My DD had chronic ear infections until about 6 almost to the point where they were going to put in tubes and one of the peds in the practice told me to NEVER let a doctor give you amoxicillin for an ear infection as it is just not very effective. ALso the large number of required doses can lead to missed doses whihc can lead to anti-bitoic resistant bacteria. Just an FYI and thank goodness for Zithromax!!!
