I just got the call from my OB's office that I failed my 1 hour GT test.. ugh... I did not fail w/ my first pregnancy, so I have some questions...

Did you have to make an appointment for the 3 hour test or can you just walk into the lab (I use Quest and walked in for my 1 hour)...

How quickly did you have to get this done after you were told you failed? The secretary at my OB's office told me this needs to be done right away but due to my DH's schedule I may not get there until the end of next week.

I had to call to schedule, to make sure that they had the drink on hand. I brought my kindle with me and a pillow. I got the call on tuesday that I failed, I had it done on Saturday morning. I wouldn't wait, just get it out of the way asap. I ended up passing the 3 hour with flying colors, there was a 30 point difference between my 2 fasting glucose levels - meaning whatever I ate the night before the 1 hour increased my blood glucose so much that it gave me a false fail reading.

I failed the 1 hour test -- I had the test done on a Saturday and got my failure results on Tuesday. I had my OB's office fax the new prescription for the 3 hour test to my lab and went and had it done that Saturday. You definitely should call ahead of time to make an appointment to 1) make sure they have the 3 hour drink and 2) that no one else is scheduled for a 3 hour at that time. They try to spread you out from other women since the blood draws are time sensitive and they don't want 2 people needing to get their blood drawn at the same time. They will draw your blood 4 times -- you'll get a baseline blood draw before you drink the drink, you'll drink the glucose, and then have 1 draw for the next 3 hours. I failed 1 of my 4 draws, but still passed the 3 hour. You need to fail 2 or more to be diagnosed. Since I failed one of the draws, my OB made me get another 3 hour test 2 weeks ago at 35 weeks as sometimes people's blood sugar levels change towards the end of pregnancy. It was annoying but better to be safe than sorry. That 2nd time I took it, I passed all 4 blood draws with no problem. You'll have to fast before the test and can only drink water during that fasting time period. Once you drink the drink, you won't be able to drink anything (even water) until you are finished. I had to make an appointment for the 3 hr test. I just made sure to schedule it for a few days before my next appointment which was about 2 weeks later. I took them early with #1 though.

I failed the 3 hour, barely. Same with the 1 hour. I also have reason to believe that I was wrongly diagnosed due to illness which, from what I read, can affect blood sugar. I had no GD related problems in the 26 weeks I had it and DD was perfect. i also had my A1C tested early in this pregnancy and that came back within normal range.

We'll see what happens when I take it this time around. If I'm sick, I'm canceling and rescheduling!

I failed the 1 hour and did the 3 hour the following week, about 5 days later. I did both at my OB office.

Ugghh - I failed too. I took it last week and plan on taking it on Monday.

I just got the call today that I failed my 1 hour test too! Ughh! The one hr one made me feel so naseous, I'm really nervous about taking the three hr one. Good luck!! I hope it goes okay!!

For those of you taking the 3 hour, make sure when you call ahead to make an appointment you request that the drink be refrigerated! It makes it so much easier to drink and get it down. Also, I brought my own plastic straw with me based on the recommendation of a friend and it really helped me get it down quick but without the gagging/chugging feeling!

Thanks all. I am going to go tomorrow morning and just go into work a little late. Fingers crossed that I pass the test, and don't pass out!

I failed the one hour, walked into my OB's office at 8:00 am on a Saturday for the 3 hour test and passed.
