Questio for moms who warm bottles in the microwave

Do you pour the formula in a glass to heat, THEN pour it into the bottle? Or just put the bottle in the micro? I was always putting the bottle in the micro, then the other day someone screamed at me telling me that all the plastic polymers were melting into the milk and I was harming my child. Now I want to kill myself. Does anyone know what the deal is about this?

I heat it in a glass then put it in the bottle. I agree about the plastic, I don't do any plastic heating in the micro anymore. Just use glass going forward, try not to beat yourself up over it (Mommy guilt is so strong though, I know!)

I have heard about the plastic thing being for all types of heating, not just in the microwave. I'm not sure that there has ever been any link between the plastic bottles and a health problem, though, I think it is more theoretical.

The reason I have been told NOT to heat milk in the microwave is that it heats liquid unevenly- so parts of the milk will be the right temp but other pockets may be scalding hot and burn the baby.

I use hot water from the tap in a glass and leave the bottle in it to warm.

Thanks, I warmed the bottles in hot water the first 4 months and then got so fed up with waiting 10 minutes or so, I just started using the micro. I have the number of seconds down to a science now and I know about the uneven heating thing so I just shake it up really well. I guess I will try to pour it in a glass though.

From what I've read, unless you are heating the liquid to boiling temperature, it is not a risk. Of course we don't heat the milk to boiling -- just to warm it so I still feel comfortable warming in the bottle.

I just would heat it directly in the bottle.. a screaming baby left me no time to switch liquids from different containers.
