Question 1 - Once the baby comes out...

Does the pain of labor go away right away (not including the stitching up or anything). Like is it immediate relieve when the baby comes out?

Re: Question 1 - Once the baby comes out...

I don't know about pain...I had a c-section and I was numb..but I felt a release in pressure and I felt so much lighter.

Then again...I was pretty high from all the drugs I had in me....so who knows...Chat Icon

Well...if you have an epidural I would imagine you don't feel anything for AWHILE after the labor. Plus they keep you nice and drugged up so you can rest.

I had a c-section (more drugs than v-birth) that's why I say I would imagine. I had an epi and then they gave me another dose right before the c/s. After the surgery I was in recovery for 3 hours and I was totally drugged. After that, it was Motrin every 4 hours or so... I didn't feel any pain until the next day.

Re: Question 1 - Once the baby comes out...

I felt a small amount of relief when Ava came out - I felt AMAZING after the placenta was delivered.

I went "au natural" (no time for an epi) so for me the passing of the placenta just made me feel like it was finally over.

The stitching up took 45 minutes (I tore really badly b/c she came out so fast) but it wasn't bad at all.

Re: Question 1 - Once the baby comes out...

I had an epidural - but it wore off at 8cm so from then on I didn't have any meds. I have to be honest - for me the pain didn't end when the baby was out - I had a lot of bleeding so they had to push down on my uterus for a long time to ease the bleeding - that hurt A LOT!!

After that though it was ok - I mean you are a little tender "down there" for a while - and your stomach is actually sore - put you aren't in any PAIN anymore. The most pain I had was from something I pulled in my back while pushing so I took tylenol every few hours - if it wasn't for that though I am sure I would have felt pretty good all things considered.

Didn't feel a thing for about 6 hours or so. The Dr. topped up my epi about 2.5 hours before he was born, so I didn't feel a thing. DH told me after the labor that he couldn't believe how good I pushed and that I didn't look like I was in any pain....I said that's because I wasn't. Gotta love the epi.

yup, this sounds so gross, but if you have ever been constipated and finally pass a bowel movement, it feels just like that, like great relief, especially if you don't get the epidural, it is instant relief once the placenta is delivered

I pushed for about 2.5 hours before they brought out a vacuum to pull her out, just being able to stop pushing was immediate relief. I was soooo exhausted!!!

Yeah-- i pushed for over 3 hrs, so I too was relieved to stop pushing after they used the vacuum to get him out as well....

When they started pressing and "massaging" (BEATING-lol) my belly to ease the placenta out I remember it being HIGHLY uncomfy again.. but I was so relieved my son was out.. and my mind was going 110 mph, Almost 3 years later and I almost forgot it all!Chat Icon

Re: Question 1 - Once the baby comes out...

I had an epidural but they let it basically wear off by the time I had to push so I felt a lot! I felt lots of relief as soon as the head came out....it still hurt somewhat but A LOT less than before the head was out....the shoulders hurt somewhat but as soon as they were out I felt such relief!! The placenta came out within 5 minutes and that to me was nothing at all. I didn't get any stitches so afterwards wasn't bad. I had hurt my tailbone during labor so that killed me and a little cramping.

I had no drugs and for me the relief was pretty instant. You are exhausted and shaky though but not in pain. I was up walking around and feeling good withing and hour.

I also had 2 kids w/o drugs. It was an instant relief for me, up & walking immediately. First day isn't so bad, next day the stitches (if you have them) hurt a bit more.

You should warn DH about the shaking thing - I knew it was going to happen since I had seen my sister deliver. He was a bit freaked out by it since I was also losing what seemed like a lot of blood to him but I was fine.

Re: Question 1 - Once the baby comes out...

I didn't use any drugs with my daughter, I had an epidural (it was turned off way before pushing though) with my son and both times it was Instant relief!!! I think a lot of it you just forget about as soon as you see that little face!Chat Icon I was in ALOT of pain though when I tried to BF!!Chat Icon from the uterus contracting, but I took some Motrin for that.
