question about a spinal during a c-section?
I am pregnant with my 5th child,I had all the girls via vaginal birth with epidurals,This is my son,he is breech,I am having him in a couple of days via c-section,I have never had one before,I am having a spinal, never had one before,is it much different than a epidural?does the baby get numb?how long does it take to wear off? I really appreciate any answers I can get. This is all new to me.

Hmmm, see now, I had an epidural with my c-section. I'd imagine they're similar. I'm curious now, too!

The difference is with an epidural you are left with a catheter in your back so they can continue giving you med's over a long period of time, A spinal is one injection that is meant to last a limited amount of time. Hope this helps.

I've had 3 spinals (with my C/Sections). Ive never had an epi though. I know they just give you shots in your spine with the spinal and there is no cathader hanging out. They numb your skin then give you the actual spinal. No, your baby will not be numb. The medicine is in your spinal fluid and will not harm the baby. With all 3 kids my legs were moving 1-2 hours after the surgery and I was in my room about 3 hours later. From what I've heard the new spinals have morphine built right in, atleast mine did, so it didn't hurt too bad when I was recovering but boy was I itchy If you have any other questions Im experienced just FM me
