Question about adopting a puppy?
Anyone ever adopt from a shelter like North Shore Animal League or Bide a Wee? How long does that process take? I want to get a puppy for my Dad and I want to surprise him. He'll be going away for a month and I want the puppy to be here when he gets back. Is that enough time to complete the adoption process?

Yeah, that is what I was going to say too... Shelters are very strict about puppy adoption, and they will ask you tons of questions and maybe even visit your home to make sure its puppy-appropriate. You may have very hard time adopting a puppy as a gift. Maybe you can make him some kind of card with puppies on it and then go together to choose one?

I would take him to the shelter when he returns & make sure that he can pick the pup that is the best fit for him. Also training a dog in one house then moving it to another can be very detrimental to the dog's training.
Good luck!

Re: Question about adopting a puppy?
We adopted from North Shore. We both were there and they called 3 people to check us out.
It took a couple of hours
