Re: Question about Amnio
Hi!
For the girls who have had an amnio, how did it feel? Did you have any cramping afterwards? I am having mine next week and am so nervous. What should I expect?
Thanks for any information!!

Re: Question about Amnio
I had mine done in the peri-natologists office. The way it went for me was that I went in to the office and first the sono technician did a sono on me and measured stomach and head. She then checked the heart and the heartrate. After she was done she went out and brought in the medical tray and then left to get the doctor. The doctor came into the room and did a few quick sono measurements on his own. After he was done he put iodine on my stomach and started the injection into my stomach. I choose not to watch this happening and instead I choose to hold DH's hand and stare into his eyes. The needle itself felt no different then the needle used to take blood and the needle was in for a few minutes (4 or 5 maybe?) then he took it out and I was all done. Afterwards I came home and my belly felt very sore. Then about an hour later I experienced some cramps. These cramps lasted the rest of the day but they were not continuious. Instead the came and went at a rate of about 8 cramps per hour. The next morning I woke up and I felt fine.
ETA Best of luck to both of you ladies! I hope your results come back good!

Re: Question about Amnio
Mine went pretty much the same way except I felt a cramp when the needle went thru my uterus. I also had cramping for a hour or two after the amnio but it went away. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. Good luck!!!

Re: Question about Amnio
Mine went the same too except I was able to see a sono of the baby while it was being done so I looked at that. I wasn't allowed to have anyone in the room with me except the Dr and the sono tech.

Re: Question about Amnio
I did but I focused on the baby, an added plus is the sono pics are so grainy so it wasn't super obvious. Thank goodness.
How are you feeling? Your little man is gorgeous and I was so glad to read you are finally getting some relief from the pain.

Re: Question about Amnio
Thanks for the great information.
Did anyone have the amnio done with Stony Brook Ob/Gyn?
I am 50/50 about having the amnio. My Nuchal fold test put my risk at 1 in 246, the cut off for them to say not to have it is 1 in 250. I was 4 short. I had my afp test done and it was negative. I'm so confused and nervous. I have to make my decision by tomorrow. Thanks again.

Mine was in the Dr.'s office... Dh was allowed in the room.... There was a sono that I could see during- however I choose not to, because I knew seeing the needle would freak me out....
DH watched- a saw the needle...
He really never discussed it with me- because he knew I wouldve been freaked out- the next day I had DS- and to this day- Ive never really asked any details....

I had some cramping shortly after the procedure. Personally i thought it was an uncomfortable experience. Definitely tolerable now looking back. Don't be nervous, it'll be over in 1-2-3

You are always in control of this decision either way. Those are very low risks and it is a personal decision on whether you want one or not. Personally Scott and I know we will not have one (if I get pregnant again in the future), unless a test comes back near positive for a issue. You have to weigh the pros and cons for youself.
