Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
If you converted the nursery into a big girl room when DD was 2-3 years old, how long do you expect to keep it that new, big girl style?
I finally convinced DH to have DD's gender neutral room painted and will do a girly theme but now I am having second thoughts that I should wait until she's older - around 4-5.
I told DH that this new theme would last until she was like 10-12, but I just said that so he would think it would last a long time.
Thanks!

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
my sister upgraded her DD's room to Tinkerbell when she was 3. Now at 7 she no longer wants Tinkerbell - "it's too babyish."
I would think it depends on what you are doing with her room. If you are doing something character related like the princesses or something she might outgrow it by the time she is 7 or so.

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
Sarah's room has been this way 3 years now, we told her for her next birthday she can pick out her own bedding. But we won't be repainting it next year.
ETA: Right now it's pink and yellow roses. She wants Hello Kitty next. I'm hoping she'll be happy with HK sheets and I can do a comforter and curtains from PB Kids or something like that.

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
I think it depends on what theme you choose..if you go with a character, like Tinkerbell or whatever mentioned above..it will be outgrown quicker than say butterflies and flowers (this is what Im doing for DD)

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
I am probably going to do butterflies and flowers too. I'm not into characters and I also think they outgrow them quickly. At 2, DD has already outgrown Elmo, Thomas, and I think Dora will be on the outs soon too!!
But I need to get cracking on this too -- DD greeted me this morning in the den. No, I did NOT take her out of her crib - she climbed out on her own. Time for her big girl bed!

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
We are redoing DDs room for DS and moving DD into a new room.
I'm doing polka dots and flowers and hoping I get 5-7 years out of it (she is 2).

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
No - it definitely won't be any characters.... More of a color theme.
Something along the lines of
If I did any theme, it would be something like this -
Flowers

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
Love those ideas you posted, those are along the lines I'd do as well. You can get many years out of that look, IMO. And as someone else said, you can add little things through the years about what she's "into" at the time, you know?

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
DD will turn 3 this Fall. By next Spring/Summer, I'd like to update her room. Right now, there's no there, but I agree with OP. Kids grow out of things quickly. DD is really into the whole Disney Princess and Fairies thing now...but by xmas it could be totally something different.
I like the butterflies/flowers idea. You can always get those decals that come off easily.

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
We are doing a big girl room now that she is 2. Ours is chocolate brown with pink and gingham butterflies for good measure. I never was into themes because they are so finicky these little people about what they like lol

Re: Question about "Big Girl" Rooms
The third photo you posted (yellow room with flowers) is what I am going for. I actually have that photo saved on my computer. All we need to get to complete the look is the furniture and bedding.
I am doing it that way because I figure we'll get more mileage out of that theme, rather than a character theme. I expect to re-do the room when DD is older with her help and opinions.
I thought about doing something like the first two photos you posted but I figured that would be the next re-do. I wanted something a little more childish at her young age (2.5yo).
