Question about Blood in Stool - TMI
Quick background - Jordan was determined to have milk allergy when an infant and was on Elecare. Blood wasn't visible but stool tested positive. He is 15.5 months and fully on milk. Stool, blood work and skin tested have all tested negative for milk allergy. He is on Lactaid because he was having issues with not going to bathroom frequently.
So, this morning when he pooped - it was a tiny bit stringy, which I would think is mucous. Not throughout - literally one tiny bit. Also, there was a couple of "pieces" of red in his poop - but he's had this before if he's had tomato sauce, which he did two days ago, but not sure 100% that it couldn't be blood.
I don't want to jump the gun but I guess I got nervous when I saw the "stringiness" and the red. WWYD? Just wait and watch a few days?
Thanks for any advice!

Re: Question about Blood in Stool - TMI
Mucus in stool can be common. its if its all the time and alot of it then you should be concerned. Red bowel movements also are normal if the child did eat something of that color..you want to make sure its not bright blood red or black then your should def call the dr. also just so you know teething can cause mucus too in stool. I would think if DC was having an allergy and blood in stool you would def see other signs like real fussiness, very gasey and not eating well.. HTH

Re: Question about Blood in Stool - TMI
Thanks for your info, Nancy. He's pooped three times today, two of the times it was bad diarrhea. He usually only poops every 2-3 days, so I guess it's some sort of virus.

Not necessarily. We have been testing DS's stools for blood since he was 6 weeks old (he will be 1 year this month) and he tested negative at 4 months and at 10.5 months. All the other tests were positive and he had no fussiness, wasn't gassy and ate normally when allergens were in his system. His symptoms are mucousy stools, constipation & sometimes diarrhea, undigested food in his stools, eczema on his face, blood in stools and occasional spitting up.
It doesn't sound like much, so I would probably wait a few days. If you're really concerned I'm sure you could bring a diaper in to your ped to get tested quickly. My ped's office will do it on the spot. Good luck, I hope it's nothing!

Re: Question about Blood in Stool - TMI
Thank you! Just spoke with his babysitter and no poops as of yet today, so we'll just wait and see.
