Thank you! How would he get typed...they would need the donated blood in a few weeks...would the blood center that is collecting it let him know, or does he have to go to his Dr to get a blood test?

If you are O+ you can have either 2 + alleles (one from each parent), or 1+ 1- allele. But in your case, you probably have one negative allele and one positive allele. I say this b/c if your DD is A-, then she must have two negative alleles, since a person who is RH- can only have 2 negative alleles (since a positive allele would show, since it's dominant).
So if your DD is A-, (and you are O+) then your DH would be either A- (with two negative alleles), or A+ (with one negative allele and one positive allele).
Or your DH could be AB- or AB+ as well.
A positive allele is dominant so if a person only has one, it will show up that they are RH + when they also carry the negative allele.
Another way.... You are O+ (would have to be -/+ if your DD is - ) Your DH could either be A + (+, - alleles) OR A - (-,- allele) or AB+ or AB-.
If your DD is A-, she got the A from your DH (whether he is A or AB), and if she is RH negative then she had to get one negative allele from you and one negative allele from your DH. But yes, you could both be RH + as a blood type but carry the negative allele trait.
So again your DH would have to be A- or A+, or AB - or AB+.

Thank you! This is what I wanted to know...how blood type is passed from parent to child...so we have to find out if he is A+ or A-

Or he could be AB- and AB +. Either way, if you want to be sure they would have to type him to find out his exact type. HTH

Re: Question about blood type
He can call his primary care physician to give him a lab scrip to test for his blood type. No hospital would ever just take his word that he is any blood type. They will still test him before donating. They have many procedures in place for family member donations I would call the hospital to ask what steps need to be taken - i.e. foods to eat/not eat, medication he is on, and when/where to donate.
