Question about city tax when moving from Queens to Nassau
We will be be moving from Queens to Nassau County soon. I assume that I have to notify HR so that they stop taking out city tax from my paycheck.
Does that mean that I may end up oweing state taxes at the end of the year?
If I continue having my city taxes taken out of my check will I get a bigger state return?

Re: Question about city tax when moving from Queens to Nassau
Yes, let HR know that you moved out of the city and they will stop the NYC tax witholding. If you are coded correctly with your payroll company, NYC taxes will not be withheld. If you want a larger NYS tax refund you should ask your payroll dept to increase your NYS tax withholdings - but that is essentially giving an interest free loan to NYS.
Your state tax should stay about the same - you would have to check your current tax return to your current withholdings (NYS only) to make sure you are covered.
I think they pro-rate the NYC portion for the first year on your tax return.
