Question about Colds
Provided your child just has a runny nose and cough, how long do you keep them home?
I'm a sahm, so he doesn't go to daycare, but we take some classes and such. DSs last cold lasted about 2 weeks. He was sick the first week, but the second week he seemed much better, just had a cough and stuffy nose for a few more days. Once he started feeling better, I took him out shopping and such, but didn't feel so comfortable bringing him to classes.

Re: Question about Colds
If I went based on the fact that DS has a runny nose and a cough,.... he would be home for a month and a half (and still counting!)
DS started daycare when he was 12 months... a month and a half ago... and his nose has been running and he's been coughing ever since.
As long as he doesn't have a fever, is still eating normally and his mood is the same... I take him anywhere.
ETA: I just make sure to bring a LOT of tissues with me!

Re: Question about Colds
Thanks! Yeah, other than a runny nose and cough, he's his usual self. I'll probably wait another day or two since he just came down with this one, then I'm assuming he shouldn't be contagious anymore.
You bring up a good point htough. When he's in daycare, no way DH and I can take off till he's fully recovered from every cold, nor can other parents. So it's not that different.

Re: Question about Colds
DS caught his first cold a few weeks ago. I ended up keeping him home for a week because his fever wouldn't break. It finally broke once he started antibiotics, and we were allowed to take him back to daycare. He still had a runny nose, but the daycare said it was okay as long as his fever was gone for over 24 hours.
