Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
DH still gets four bottles a day - he's not a good drinker for the most part so I am always trying. When you went from four to three bottles a day, how did you do it? Did you wean the bottle? Did you just cut it out from day one? I'm also concerned that if DS has a bad morning bottle, which can happen, am I still not going to give him a bottle for another 6 hours or so?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
If you mean switching from bottle to sippy, Logan will be 1 in 2 weeks and we started by switching out his afternoon bottles with a sippy. Once he was cool with that, I switched out his morning bottle with a sippy (and did that for about a week). We then switched out his bottle before bed with a sippy. That was the most difficult for him (but we used the "munckin" brand - it had more of a soft sippy), but we managed to get him off of the bottle within 3 weeks.
Logan has never been a good "drinker"... but once we switched from formula to a milk/formula mix to transition, he drinks four sippy cups of milk/formula of about 5 oz. Sometimes he'll go with a full 6 oz. It's made him a better drinker with being on a sippy.
I didn't want to drastically do the switch - for fear that he would be super cranky and resistant. I found this worked the best with him. He's been off the bottle since Thanksgiving.
I hope this helped.

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
Hi! I was actually talking about just cutting down from 4 bottles a day to 3, but thank you for your answer because we're going to have to wean off of bottles eventually!
Anyone, how did you cut from 4 bottles down to 3 a day - as recommended by our GI at one year?

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
I didn't do anything to have her cut a bottle out. My DD went to 3 bottles on her own when she was ready. I don't remember at what age specifically but I didn't do anything on my end to have her lose a bottle. One day she just went to 3 bottles and that was that.
At about 17 months we went cold turkey with the bottles. I don't get the whole weaning thing, to me it's so arbitrary as to when they can have a bottle and to a little kid I'm sure they don't understand why it's okay to have a morning bottle but not an afternoon bottle. KWIM? So we literally just stopped giving her bottles and while her milk consumption dropped drastically it didn't really matter since she was eating 3 square meals a day and snacks at that point. Anyway, when the time comes to drop them all together I really recommend going cold turkey with it. It was so much easier.

Same. She wasnt really taking the 4th bottle. So we cut it down to a bottle at 6:30, breakfast at 8, snack at 10:30 lunch at 12:30, bottle at 1 snack at 3, dinner at 5 and last bottle at 6:30-7

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
DD cut the night bottle out herself. We noticed for a week that she would have an oz then refuse, by the end of the week she did not want it at all. Now, she is doing the same with her afternoon bottle.

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
DS takes 1 bottle when he wakes up, 1 around 3:00 PM before his afternoon nap and then 1 before he goes to bed.
When he was taking a fourth bottle, it was around lunchtime but he didn't seem to want it so we just took it out.
I was concerned that it was a long stretch between his morning and afternoon bottle, but I make sure to give him water with breakfast, when he gets up from his morning nap, and with lunch.

We went cold turkey from bottle to sippy and just eliminated the 2nd one around the time he cut that morning nap out so he didnt miss it.

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. As some of you know, we have had struggles with Jordan with formula consumption pretty much since day one between reflux and then being on the (yucky) Elecare for 8 months. I am kind of nervous to stop the fourth bottle because his intake is so different day by day. Some mornings he'll drink 6-7 oz - sometimes it will literally take a half hour to coax him to drink 2-3 oz. So, I am nervous to cut out one of his bottles, esp since he'll sometimes have such a small morning bottle. He pretty much always wants and drinks a full bedtime bottle, so I definitely won't be cutting that out.
Most of you have told me that your DC pretty much weaned themselves off of one of the feedings but in Jordan's case, he really hasn't. So would you suggest just spacing it out and cutting it out? Or wean one slowly down?

Same sort of happening here..
I asked this question too, wasn't too sure how to do it, tried it a few ways, but I felt ds was mad at me..
A month later, he's cutting out ounces on his own.

Re: Question about Cutting Bottle at One Year Old...
we started switching out the daytime bottles. he only gets one at nite and first thing in the am. It took a while to get him used to the cups, but now he's ok with it. So im going to try to cut out the morning one next.
