Question about dehydration
Liam is teething big time - upper tooth. He's got the big D for the past 2 days. Big time!! I think he had about 12 diaper changes yesterday!
As for formula - he's drinking 1/2 to 3/4 of his bottles. That means he's drinking between 3 to 3.5 oz of each bottle (some are 6oz bottles and some are 7oz bottles). Do you think he should be given Pedialyte as well for dehydration?
Is it ok to give babies that are 6 mos old and over? It says talk to Dr before giving it to babies under 1 yr old. My DH talked to the nurse at DS's pedi's office and she said it was OK....?
I think the reason Liam won't drink the bottles is that it hits his upper gum and causes pain. I was thinking of giving him Orajel before a bottle but my pedi (and some other people here and on babycenter.com) said it's not a great thing to give. I gave some to him a month ago but I havne't since b/c it didn't seem to work...
Any advice appreciated! thanks!

Re: Question about dehydration
He probably wont want to drink pedialyte out of the bottle either if it hurts, right? But DS had it in the hospital at 3 months so I'm pretty sure it's safe.
When he is teething he does the same, eats 1/2 his bottles and then cries bc it hurts. I just try to feed him more often so he doesn't get soo hungry. I don't think you have to worry about dehydration unless he stops drinking period for a certain period of time. Personally I'd rather get the calories in him when he is willing to drink.

I didn't think he really needed it either but as a first time mom I wasn't sure. He's back to drinking most, if not all, of his bottles AND ate for me too yesterday - a whole jar of sw. potatoes! So I guess the main teething, round 2 is over. Thanks!
