Question about Disney World---UPDATED...

I have to go to Orlando for a conference in April. I'm presenting one day, and the rest of the time is pretty flexible. I'm debating whether to go alone or to make it a family trip w/DH and DD. DD will only be 20.5 months in April.

I was wondering if anyone had any input about this...

Basically, I'm trying to weigh my options. Either way I have to buy a plane ticket for myself and a hotel for several nights.

If my fam went, it would be a plane ticket for DH (do a lap seat for DD b/c its a quick flight???). A few more hotel nights.

DD would be free correct, at the Disney resorts? So it would just be DH and I...which I think around around $100 per ticket.

I can't decide if the money is worth taking her now b/c she won't remember.

At the same time, I have to go anyways, so maybe it'll be a missed opportunity.

Decisions, decisions....

****************UPDATE**************************

Ok, so 90% we're going...we just have to double check dates, and my mom might be coming too which is cool! Chat Icon

If anyone has any general advice/recommendations, I'd love to hear/read it Chat Icon The only thing I know of so far is where we're staying (Caribe Royale) because that's where the conference is. Whoo hoo!

I would definitely take her!!! It won't cost anything for her to get into the parks. And you will be surprised with what she may remember. I think that will be a great age! We were going to take DS there in May, he will be 19 months old, but we are looking to move so we pushed it back to October...My friends have been taking their kids there from a very young age...The oldest was 11 months old on her first trip and the youngest was 2 months old...We took DS when he was almost 5 months old. He loved all the lights and the characters...Have fun!!!

Re: Question about Disney World

take her. We took DS at 22 months. Yes he wont remember it but really how many things do we do with them that they wont remember but we will never lose those memories! We had a great time with DS and he LOVED it all. Actually it was better at 22 months than at 3yo! Because now he is more cautious has more fears etc. Last year he went on everything with no hesitation, he was happy as a clam the whole time!

We did him as a lap child last year but were lucky enough that he got a seat.

You dont have to buy tix for the park for him but you can find the pricing for adults on the disney world website.

I would definitely take your DC if you can swing it. The plane might be rough it is about 3 hours - but if you really want to save the money you could swing it.

Children under 3 are free - they are free for the hotel and free for park admission. As far as eating - if you go to counter service and order her food you will pay for her. If you go to an a la carte type restaurant (sit down with a menu) and order her a kids meal you will pay for her. However, if you go to a family style restaurant (Ohana, Garden Grill etc) or a buffet children under 3 eat free. We didn't have to pay for either of our DDs on our last trip at any character meal, Liberty Tree dinner, or Ohana.

Re: Question about Disney World

I took DD at the begginning of the month. She is a bit older, 31 months at the time of our trip. We had a blast and seeing her experience it all for the first time was so awesome. She really thought the princesses, fairies, mickey and minnie, etcetera were the real thing. We did one day in the Magic Kingdom and I wish we would have allocated time for two. My only gripe is the lack of changing tables at the park. There is a baby changing station at the entrance which even has a nursing area but in the rest of the park there is one changing table in the bathroom and lots of little ones in diapers...

Re: Question about Disney World

I would take the whole family. We took DS for the first time at 18 months. He loved it even more then we expected. We'll be taking both boys in June, my little guy will only be 15 months. He may not remember it, but I know he will have a blast. He loves Mickey Mouse.

Re: Question about Disney World

Take her!! We hadn't planned on taking our kids until they were 5 figuring they wouldn't remember it. Then DH started a new job, vacation is in Jan or Feb so we go to Disney every year. DD#2 was 7 months old the first time she went and she loved it so much more than we thought she would.

We show them pictures and videos from our Florida trips and DD#1 who is 3.5 constantly talks about going to Mickey's house. It's her second gift she asked Santa for this year and as long as she continues to be a good girl - Santa is bringing tickets for a trip in February.
