Question about DS constantly touching ears
DS is 20 months old. Several times a day he will stick his fingers in his ears (as if something is too loud). It's not because there's a loud sound. He seems to do it for no obvious reason. He doesn't pull on his ears and never appears to be in any discomfort. His hearing seems to be just perfect. He never has a problem hearing us and he is speaking well for his age. Is this normal for a child his age or could it be something that we are not realizing?
TIA for your help!

Re: Question about DS constantly touching ears
Based on what you have said, it seems like normal behavior.

Re: Question about DS constantly touching ears
DD starting doing this at 2 separate times (both close to 2 years old) - first when she was getting her 2 year old molars (it does sometimes hurt their ears) and when she learned that if she sticks her fingers in her ears she hears differently (or less). So I guess she was learning what her ears were for

Re: Question about DS constantly touching ears
I was worried about this too because DS (21 months) just had tubes put in his ears so I thought they were bothering him. But then the next day he started putting cheerios in his ears, so I think he just discovered that there are holes there and that he can put stuff in them.

Re: Question about DS constantly touching ears
DS started doing this around that time too. I spoke to the Dr about it at his regular 2 year old check up and she said it's most likely nothing. Kids like to explore stuff on their body and they stick fingers into their ears. Also, she told me it's not uncommon for most kids to have sensative hearing. I am pretty sure that is what DS has...he still puts his hands over his ears when there is a loud noise or his brother is screaming. However it does not seem to bother him while he is screaming at the top of his lungs.

Re: Question about DS constantly touching ears
My DS is 21 months and did this out of no where the other day. He kept putting his fingers in his ears as if too say I don't want to hear you He never did it again but, that moment he wouldn't stop until I distracted him. Not sure what it was - he doesn't have a fever and isn't sick so maybe it is teething - he has been getting his 2yr molars forever... I also think maybe he just found a new sensation and a new area to explore
