Question about DVR with cablevision

My Dad has cablevision and I wanted to get him Tivo for christams. Just wondering what the costs associated with this would be. Monthly Charge? Equipment(buy or pay each month?)
TIA

Re: Question about DVR with cablevision

your dad could just get the DVR digital cable box from cablevision--the box and service is $9.95 a month.

if you buy tivo--($100-300) you have to buy the unit itself and then pay the monthly subscription service.

we have the cablevision DVR and it works out nicely for us

Re: Question about DVR with cablevision

I like the one from the cable company better- it's much more user friendly

and it's cheaper

Tivo vost me $100 for the box and $14 a month

DVR cost me $8 a month per box- and now we have 2 of them for the same price

Re: Question about DVR with cablevision

You can get a tivo for 100 bucks, and the monthly depends how many months in advance you pay. I think if you pay for a year it comes out to 10 dollars a month.

I prefer the tivo to the cablevision DVR - I find it easier to use.

Re: Question about DVR with cablevision

The DVR through cablevision is about $6 for the box and $9.95 for the service each month.

However - if he already had a box, he is already paying the $6 so you would just exchange the box and they will add the $9.95 to the bill.

It may be difficult to do this w/o him knowing, they will not let you add the service if the account is not in your name.
